"Music when we were growing up was the best. Everything these days is so terrible."
Turns out across every single generation, quality of music peaks at age 17 and you begin to start hating any music made after you're 35.
The Nostalgia Effect is powerful!
🧵 I’ve been observing how difficult it is to discuss #Disney#Lorcana strategy online, and it’s been on my mind quite a bit. I get it, there’s such a sentimental attachment to these characters, and we’re all coming at the game from varied skill levels. There’s also this new found problem where judging a card is also somehow offending the artist, but it’s unrelated IMO. Art can be amazing on a bad card, that’s not the artist’s fault. It also doesn’t help that we naturally assume a negative tone when reading, leading to conflict 🙏
I want to share an example from base set Pokémon. Nostalgia would tell you Charizard was the best card ever, right? Unfortunately it wasn’t, it rarely saw play despite selling for thousands of dollars these days. Cards like Energy Removal defined the meta because you need energy to attack, you could only attach 1 per turn, and your opponent could easily slow you down with removal 🥷
So if Charizard wasn’t the meta, what was? It was less popular characters like Hitmonchan and Electabuzz, who didn’t need to evolve and could attack with just 1 energy! The cards people played were based on other prominent cards in the meta. Why attempt to evolve a Pokémon twice and build up 4 energy for Charizard, when you can play a card like Hitmonchan and instantly deal damage? 🥊
Not much is different when it comes to Lorcana. Cards like Smash or Rafiki make it so that you often want 4+ willpower once you hit that 4-cost breakpoint. Losing a 5-cost to a 3-cost feels terrible. Is your opponent 100% always going to have it? No, but playing best of 3 and multiple opponents in a tournament means it’s likely to happen, so it’s better to build around it. Why hedge your game plan on hoping your opponent doesn’t have something? 🎲
Cards like Dragon Fire and Let It Go set another breakpoint where most cards above 5-cost should do something on play so that you still get some value before it’s removed. I don’t mind if you throw your removal at my Surfer Stitch, I already drew 2 cards. I don’t care if you Let it Go my Hades, because I already removed your big threat when I played him. I judge every 6+ cost card through this lens, and it’s more nuanced than saying “dies to removal”. You will surprise people at first, but if a card becomes the “meta”, people will hold their removal for it 😉
Whether it’s Chess or Lorcana, you win any game by out-valuing your opponent. Every trade matters. You want to get more value out of what you play than your opponent does, and that requires making some hard decisions in what to include or not sometimes. You can still enjoy the game with this mindset, but analyzing sets against prominent cards is the path to winning more often (if that’s a goal for you). If you don’t care about winning, none of this matters! But if you find yourself frustrated and wanting to be better at the game, this is the way 😄
I say all of this to push us to be more open to discussing strategy, while still loving our favorite Disney characters. I play this game for fun, just as much as I enjoy competing. But I think paying attention to little tips like this shouldn’t take the fun out of the game as much as I feel it does right now. Let’s find a middle ground where we can all enjoy the game without pushing different types of players out. If we all understand a little game theory, it makes the game more interesting and fulfilling for everyone 🤗
You won’t rely on just copying top 8 lists, you can make your own. You won’t get frustrated assuming your opponent was “just lucky” (which is rarely true). You’ll have more fun appreciating everyone’s skill and shaking your opponents hand with respect, win or lose ❤️

@unionsami Probably alioth or hit monkey because they have the most unique effect and are pretty good cards. The other cards can be easily swapped out for something else.
Of course if you want to play a particular deck and you only need one card for it go for it

The DC card game @dcdualforce put out a new trailer. Very little details of gameplay, but the description has me really excited.
"compete in PvP matches" The game is very focused on PvE, so hearing about PvP was a pleasant surprise.

5E encounter difficulty descriptions are best understood as "there's a risk that this might happen to 1 or 2 PCs."
So, 1 or 2 PCs MIGHT...
EASY: ...lose a few hit points.
MEDIUM: ...need a healing spell.
HARD: ...get low on hit points.
DEADLY: ...start making death saves.
