This UP hospital has now been given a clean chit - no deaths due to 'mock drill'
But the investigation seems to have taken the disgraced doctor's version as factual
Where are statements submitted by families of the deceased? Why is key info missing from the death audit report?
.@OnReality_Check | Did a 'mock exercise' in which oxygen supply to 22 patients was cut off in an Agra hospital result in 16 deaths?
NDTV travels to Agra to investigate.
🚨Ground report: I spent 3 days as a gig worker for Zomato, Blinkit & Swiggy in Delhi.
23 deliveries. 15.5 hours. 105 km.
Total earnings: Rs 782 (Rs 34/hour)
After fuel: ₹532
This is India's convenience economy. A thread on what I learned @IndianExpress
Gig Workers Unions have forced the government to put an end to 10-minute delivery!!!
Corporates can’t advertise / promise ten minute deliveries anymore!
This might seem small, but is a MASSIVE victory. Workers forced a policy change through a strike!
This is the most shocking data from the SIR draft list of UP.
This analysis by @TheQuint shows that SIR has led to a 54 point drop is the gender ratio of voter list, leading to wiping out 37 lakh women. Let me explain:
Gender ratio (GR) is counted as the number of women per 1000 men.
Current GR of adult population in UP = 941
But the GR in voters list was much lower.
GR of pre-SIR voters list = 876
And SIR made is much much worse.
GR of SIR draft voter list = 822
So, an unbelievable drop of 54 points in one stroke.
If the GR had remained the same as just before SIR, we should have had 6.04 cr women. But SIR draft list has only 5.67 cr women.
So SIR has led to 37 lakh additional “missing women voters”
Thanks to SIR, UP now has the worst GR in the country.
And it is also the state with highest GR drop after SIR.
Thanks to Vikas Kumar of The Quint for the data and Dr Rahul Shastri for analysis.

Can We Fault Sharjeel Imam and Umar Khalid for Dreaming of a Better World?
I taught both of them, and they impressed me with their intelligence, diligence and capacity for thinking differently.

My piece for @IndianExpress, “The decisive question is not whether labour appears voluntary, but under what conditions labour-power is sold — and whether workers have the power to refuse.”

What is even more ridiculous is that the Taliban FM is allowed to bring their abhorrent and illegal discrimination against women to India, as the government hosts the Taliban delegation with full official protocol.
This isn't pragmatism, this is supplication.

Delhi High Court denies bail to Umar Khalid in 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.
Khalid has been booked under UAPA and has been in jail since September 2020.

"I am afraid of hope, so I try not to remain hopeful. Nurturing hope in jail is a risky business."
Umar Khalid writes from jail. He has been in jail for 1730 days without trial.

"Am I just an anniversary event to the people? Why don't they wake up with the thought of my persecution and sleep with it? Why are they not troubled with the fact that anybody can be put behind bars for years without trial?" Umar Khalid asked me today. Do we have the answers?
Far from what Justice Bela Trivedi dictated in the morning, her written order states that the petitioner, Sharjeel Imam, is at liberty to “request” the Delhi High Court for an expeditious hearing, and that the High Court is “expected to consider the said request”. I mean… obviously they’ll have to consider. So, why state what is obvious?
Just four days ago, in co-accused Shifa Rehman’s bail plea, the Delhi HC had refused to grant early hearings. So SC’s order does nothing. What it does do is showcase the dishonesty of the judge. People in jail for four years, bail pleas not decided for 2.5 years, and the master of roster listing it to the most anti-liberty bench available in SC—the sham playing out in the higher courts is baffling!
GN Saibaba, a former professor of English at the University of Delhi, has died.
Saibaba was arrested in 2014 and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2017, for his alleged links with banned Maoist groups. On 5 March, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court acquitted Saibaba, deeming his decade-long incarceration under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act illegal.

Today, the Supreme Court struck down provisions in various State Prison Manuals that mandated the assignment of work in prisons based on caste & the classification of denotified tribes as habitual offenders. The judgment was delivered in Sukanya Shantha v. UOI~1
CJI: Ma'am @sukanyashantha thank you for writing that well written piece, it highlights the power of citizens, they write well researched articles and lead the matters to this Court
It’s a huge failure of the legal system that such gundas gleefully take videos of their crimes. “Gau Rakshaks” have built huge social media followings based on videos exactly like this - the fact that they may be used as evidence in court is a disturbingly faraway thought
Haji Ashraf Munyar from a village in Jalgaon District travelling in a train to Kalyan to meet his daughter was abused and badly beaten up by goons in a train near Igatpuri alleging him of carrying beef.
Meanwhile in Madhya Pradesh, a police constable was transferred a day after he refused to hand over a Muslim youngster in police custody to a BJP youth wing leader.
Muslims in this country, the ones without social and economic privilege are making peace with this every day humiliation. The institutions have betrayed them, the opposition is scared to name them and the judiciary (the less said the better)

Delhi HC needs to take cognizance regarding personal attacks on their Judicial Officers.
Justice DY Chandrachud asked in a speech why Bail is rule jail is exception not followed by Trial Courts.
This is the reason.
He wants a trial court hearing bail to read 1000 pages.
