Don’t know about Rang De Basanti, but let me tell you what some of us millennials actually grew up watching.

I was in primary school during the 1993 Mumbai bombings -- too young to even understand what terrorism meant. But I distinctly remember my mom repeatedly warning me not to pick up anything lying around while playing outside because, you know, it could be a bomb.

That was childhood.

Then came the seemingly endless procession of attacks: the 1993 Mumbai blasts, Red Fort in 2000, Parliament in 2001, the Mumbai bus bombings and Akshardham in 2002, three separate blasts within eight months in Mumbai in 2003, the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2007 Hyderabad bombings, and the 2008 Bangalore and Ahmedabad blasts.

In July 2006, I was supposed to be on one of the trains that was bombed near Mahim. I stayed back at the office because of a meeting. A completely mundane change of plans is probably the reason I’m alive to type this instead of being a name on a list of the dead.

I remember that evening far better than I remember any stupid movie. Our office went into lockdown. Phones were jammed. People were crying and frantically trying to reach their families. Nobody knew what was happening, whether there were more bombs, or whether someone they loved was lying dead inside a mangled train compartment.

Two years later came 26/11.

I had the misfortune of watching uncensored footage of the aftermath. One clip showed bodies being piled and stacked inside a makeshift room at CST while someone wheeled in another load on a bloodied wheelbarrow, with blood dripping onto the floor. The sanitised footage shown on television didn't come remotely close to what actually happened inside that station.

So yes, us millennials lived through an era where we went to work knowing that the crime of simply boarding the wrong train, getting on the wrong bus, eating at the wrong restaurant, or standing on the wrong street at the wrong fucking moment could get you blown to pieces or riddled with bullets.

Some of us literally went to work wondering, somewhere at the back of our minds, whether this would be the commute we wouldn't come home from.

So please, spare us millennials this sanctimonious horseshit about Rang De Basanti and what some Bollywood movie supposedly should have taught us about how to vote.

If you are outside Delhi and worrying about the scale of protest, let me tell you as a Delhi resident who has to travel extensively daily, that the anarchy is limited to only couple of areas, not even 2-3 KM stretch

For rest of Delhi, you won't even know something is happening in the city, we are travelling normally, Metro is on for entire Delhi, police deployment is as it is, as it was before this protest except for the Jantar Mantar area where riot control is present

Bombardement of videos by algorithm might trick you into believing something ground breaking is happening

But in reality it's just accumulation of few thousand Marxist Maowadis and Political workers from across the country in a 2-3 KM stretch making more noise than their actual impact

The cockroaches at Jantar Mantar are behaving like real cockroaches, who run away when light is shone on them.
I repeatedly put this question, but none of the cockroaches has responded, obviously because they have no answer :
The demand of CJP is resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the Education Minister.
Why should he resign ?
Because of paper leaks.
Why are there paper leaks ?
Because of rampant corruption in India, everywhere, not just in paper leaks.
So unless corruption in India is stopped, paper leaks will continue, and mere change in the Education Minister will achieve nothing.
And corruption will not stop, as was evident from Anna Hazare's anti-corruption agitation, which fizzled out without any achievement.
So the demand for Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation is silly&frivolous, and is designed to befool the stupid youth gathered in Jantar Mantar & elsewhere.
This simple logic does not penetrate the inane heads of these cockroaches, & talking to them is like banging one's head against a wall

I haven't been following the India protests that closely, but it seems to me that they reflect a basic contradiction in India's political economy that will naturally get more acute as the country grows economically. At a very basic level, the path to political power in India is through the rural poor and the farmers. This plays out at the central and state level, with governments at every level regularly extracting resources from surplus-producing urban areas to fund welfare for the hinterlands. As long as this basic political logic remains, Indian politicians will neglect the aspirations of the electorally insignificant urban middle class who form the bulk of the protesters.

The BJP has somewhat successfully bridged this divide through Hindutva politics: When it comes to economic policy they double down on rural development (water connections, electricity, welfare etc.) while pushing cultural and religious nationalism to satisfy the ascendant Hindu middle class that has the luxury of voting on ideological lines. But this is not sustainable in the long run. As the urban middle class grows, the demand for greater economic opportunity, a better standard of living, and the promise of a better future will naturally increase in intensity.

Retorts about the depredations of the Congress-era, even if true, are little consolation to the young who have only known BJP-led India. The reflexive tendency of BJP supporters to see protests as a "foreign conspiracy" reflects a basic inability to see the world through the eyes of others. That there are bad actors is no doubt true, but this does not detract from the legitimacy of the complaints about corruption, stagnation, urban misgovernance etc.

Modi and the BJP have spent years referring to their era of electoral dominance as a "golden age" of Indian economic and cultural regeneration. Turns out when you set expectations high, people will expect you meet them. Who would have thought?

Yes, most of MPs from his own party and all opposition MPs are against Modi as online portal exposes the performance of each MP and utilisation of MPLAD funds.

Yes, most of ex top brass of defence forces who forms Chandigarh Lobby are against Modi as Atmanirvar Bharat stopped their 2% commision they earned from defence imports.

Yes, most of the media person are against Modi as they no longer enjoy Govt Sponsored foreign trip and free lunch in five star hotels.

Yes, most of intellectual lobiest are against Modi as they no longer pampered with state honours. These days awards are given based on merits and not through lobbying.

Even few stallwarts from his own organisation are against Modi as they too can't take kickbacks for awarding contracts.

Yes, few ultra rich tycoons are also against Modi as he didn't give them Russian crudes below market price.

The list is almost endless.......

At the same time many common man showers good wishes and blessings to Modi.

Because, he is the man who working relentlessly for our future generations.

Remember, a politician works for political advantages but a leader works for benefit of people.

I frankly dont care for this nautanki. Please sit peacefully at Jantar Mantar and keep protesting but if u take to streets in a bid overrun parliament then be ready to face the music at the hand of security forces.

For one month you protested peacefully, Govt gave u space at Jantar Mantar. In meanwhile RE-NEET was done and results were declared. You could have continued protesting but no you wanted to create Nepal and remove Modi then face the music.

But then CJP tried to make it political by making Arundhati Roy, Yogendra Yadav, AAP & leftist unions like AISA to take over for march to parliament. If you want to get into political activism and become tools for leftists communists then should be ready for consequences.

Accountability in democracy is fixed by Courts or through elections. You cant aim to achieved the goal of overthrowing elected government of India by a violent insurrection in name of student causes.

No sympathies for anyone as we the people have seen playbook of activism many times in past few years. Please stop blocking roads & highways they are made for law abiding citizens who want to work and earn for themselves. We dont want our livelihoods to be disrupted for your misplaced political activism.

This is what I observed since past 72 hours.
A whole bunch of my journo friends and some who have turned YouTubers/influencers, have started spreading fake news, videos on Mumbai rains.
This is the same lot that has been covering @mybmc for decades. Everytime I raised issue of contractors, roads during rains, their defence used to be - it happens, be empathetic to the civic staff, see how much rains...
This empathy has now dried since their godfather and chief funder UT is out of power. The literal threats and memes they have shared about Ashwini Bhide disgusts me. 😡
Both UT and RT may ignore their own cadre, but they support and fund a large section of media in Mumbai to stay relevant. Talking points are shared, questions are told in advance - it is a fixed match.
Truth - These are my friends/former colleagues.
All of them yesterday posted that a slab of missing link had collapsed, knowing fully well it did NOT.

The fact that offices are open, stock market running, airport operating and people still making it to meetings etc is a true testament to the incredible spirit of our great city. Shame on @Swiggy for treating its delivery partners this way.

We placed an order from Baskin Robbins that should have arrived in 45 minutes. Instead, after 50 minutes, the delivery executive came to our doorstep without the order because the restaurant had been closed since the afternoon.

He had video proof, proof that he had reached the location, and messages sent to Swiggy asking for help—but Swiggy never responded. We even called the restaurant ourselves, and they confirmed they had been closed for hours. So why was Swiggy still accepting orders?

We got our refund, but that’s not the issue.

Despite repeatedly telling Swiggy that the delivery executive was not at fault and had all the evidence, they still slapped him with an ₹850 penalty.

To make matters worse, Swiggy customer care disconnected our call while we were trying to resolve the issue. They also kept insisting they were trying to contact the delivery executive, even though he was standing right in front of us and didnt receive a single call.

This is unacceptable. A company worth billions should not be forcing hardworking delivery partners to pay for its own system failures. Stop punishing the people who keep your business running and take responsibility for your own mistakes.

The silence surrounding the brutal five-day gang-rape of an innocent 13-year-old girl by 30 men in Ganganagar is absolutely deafening.
There are no protests, no mainstream news broadcasts and no trending topics on X for an act so monstrous.
