@lily1132083@sappy_sappho1 Yeah that's how I remember it - I remember a specific line about her *going through puberty* forever, which makes her dangerous, not being prepubescent forever
@sappy_sappho1@lily1132083 Yeah last photo with the nose crunchy smile I'd give her 14 but that's still years after starting puberty for most people - I wasn't even aware she was supposed to be prepubescent, I thought the point was that she'd be, like, ferally 15 forever
@denimneverdies I always interpreted it as one of those shows that lampshade genre cliches and are set in Parody of Genre Setting. Like all the characters are walking cop show cliches, it was meant to be the cop show equivalent of that d&d movie, not anything that represents the real world.
@STEALBER@NovaKom01 Agreed, but I find it noteworthy that the only "continent" we're splitting off based on culture is Europe. Tunisia and South Africa are as far apart culturally and geographically as Turkey and Japan but we never consider dividing Africa. We only do it when it's Europeans.
@STEALBER@NovaKom01 I agree, but if we're talking continents it should be about geography not culture. Europe is the only place that's considered a separate continent based on culture only
@Z1R343L In a translation scenario, a fantasy person might believably talk about a "person obsessed with working constantly", translated to your language with word X that has a specific etymology, but they certainly won't talk about "sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France"
@Z1R343L Of the concept, "sparkling wine from the Champagne region", whereas the definition of the word workaholic "person fixated on constantly working" has nothing that situates it in place or time, even if in some languages the word itself might
@sappy_sappho1@lily1132083 To me she looks like a doe-eyed 16-year-old but the 1920s styling with the long straight dresses that cover her body do a lot of the heavy lifting.
@dombabwe@SlavaMalamud I don't think this is the case with bilingual people - I was raised bilingual and I also speak English with the accent of the country I was not raised in.
it’s actually kind of ironic that classical drapery became symbolic of ancient sophistication, when drapery only became widespread bc complex bronze age tailoring techniques like these were lost after the collapse
classical fashion must look like rags to a mycenean lol
Hell exists and everyone who dies goes there because the one true religion was a spider cult in eighth century Cameroon that peaked at 400 members and died out a few decades later and it had a bunch of really specific rules about spiders.
@shinobuissm Others because SHE is being treated with kindness... So yeah it was a stupid change that derailed Dany's character for shock value and should be called out.
@shinobuissm And oppression and this aspect of the characterization then informs her future actions - the way she treats MMD follows the same logic: MMD is a slave stripped of her agency but should be cool with that because Dany treats her well, it doesn't matter how the khalasar treats+
