🗣️ Cesc: “When I became Arsenal captain, one thing I learned very quickly was that you stop playing only your own game.

You’re constantly talking. ‘Move there. Come closer. Turn. Press.’ Sometimes you spend so much time organising everybody else that you forget you also have to play.

I watch Odegaard now and he seems to have the opposite problem.

He’s pointing where people should stand, controlling the tempo, demanding the ball, telling somebody where the next pass should go… and then apparently he has decided he should score the goals as well.

Look at Napoli. Arsenal are trying to find the breakthrough, Martin is conducting everything as usual. Then the ball comes to him outside the box and he just hits it into the corner.

That’s four goals in five games now. City, Coventry, Chelsea, Napoli. For a player whose game has never depended on goals, that’s a serious addition.

I remember there were periods last season where people were questioning him. That’s normal at Arsenal; sometimes one bad month and people start interviewing candidates for your position.

But this is how a captain answers it. Not by telling everybody he’s back. You make yourself impossible to leave out.

And what I like most is that the goals haven’t replaced the other things. He’s still controlling games. Still creating. Still organising everybody around him.

He’s just added one more instruction this season.

የማልደግፍበት ምክንያት፡ ደጋግሜ እንደምናገረው እኔ የኢትዮጲያ ውስብስብ ቀውስ በጦርነት ይፈታል የሚል ተስፋ የለኝም። በተለይ አከባቢው ላይ የተፎካካሪ ሀገራት መፋተጊያ በሆነበት በዚህ ወቅት በተጨማሪ ጦርነት ወደ ሰላምና ዲሞክራሲ የሚያሻግር ለውጥ ለማምጣት ያለው እድል እጅግ ጠባብ ነው። እድላችን እንሞክር ከተባለ እንኳን፣ የሚፈጠረው ትብብር ተለቅ ያለ ስምምነት ላይ ካልተመሰረተ፣ አገዛዙን ለመገርሰስም ሆነ ከዚያ በኋላ ሀገር ለማረጋጋት የሚያስችል ሁኔታ ለመፍጠር አስቸጋሪ ያደርገዋል። ሰሞኑን በወልቃይትና እና ወለጋ ጉዳዮች የተነሳው አቧራም ለዚህ ስጋቴ ትክለኛነት ማስረጃ ነው። በነዚህና ሌሎች ጉዳዮች በሰል ያለና አስተማማኝ ስምምነት ላይ የተደረሰ አይመስለኝምና ይታሰብበት ማለቴን በቅን ከመቀበል ይልቅ እንደተቃውሞ መውሰድ ተገቢ አይመስለኝም።

የማልቃወምበት ምክንያት፡ ምንም እንኳን በትጥቅ ትግል ሰላምና ዲሞክራሲ ማስፈን እንደማይቻል ባምንም፣ አገዛዙ የፖለቲካ ምህዳሩና ጠርቅሞና ግጭቶችን በሰላማዊ ድርድር ለመፍታት ያለውን እድል አጨልሞ ባለበት ሁኔታ፤ የተገፉ ወገኖች ነፍጥ አንግበው ማመጻቸውን ለመኮነን የሚያስችል ሞራል የለኝም። በተጨማሪም አሁን በደረስንበት ደረጃ፣ አማጺ ቡድኖች የፖለቲካችን ተጨባጭ ተዋናይ (real, active and influential political actors) ስለሆኑ እነሱን በማግለልና በመቃወም ወደ ሰላም፣ ዲሞክራሲና ልማት መሸጋገር አይቻልም። ስለሆነም እንደኔ በሰላማዊ ትግል የምናምን ሰዎች ከመንግስትም ሆነ ከአማጺ ወገን የታጠቁ ሀይሎች በሰላማዊ ህዝብ ላይ ጉዳት እንዳያደርሱ ከተቻለም ልዩነቶችን በድርድር እንዲፈቱ ማነጋገር፣ ማወያየት፣ መምከር እና መገሰጽ መሞከር ይጠበቅብናል። ከዛ አልፈን ግን አማጺያን መርገም ሆነ ጦርነት እንዲፋፋም ማማሟቅ ከጥቅሙ ጉዳቱ ያይላል።

እኔ የምቃወመው፡ ማንኛውም የመንግስትም ሆነ የአማጺ ሀይል በየትኛውም አካባቢ በሚኖር ሲቪል ህዝብ ላይ የሚደርጉትን ግድያና ዘረፋ፣ ወጣቶችን በግዴታ ለጦርነት ማፈስ አጥብቄ እቃወመዋለሁ። ባለኝ ተሰሚነት በሚዲያም ሆነ በዲፕሎማሲው ማህበረሰብ በኩል አጋልጣለሁ።

With all due respect to Jürgen, that’s simply not true.

The Germany goal was rightly disallowed because it was a clear foul on the goalkeeper. You cannot block, hold, or impede the goalkeeper and expect the goal to stand.

And to compare that to Arsenal is unfair. Arsenal are one of the best set-piece teams in Europe because of their movement, timing, and delivery, not because they hold goalkeepers. We attack the ball, we create space legally, and we’ve scored plenty of goals that way.

If you’re going to criticize a decision, criticize it based on the Laws of the Game, not by throwing another team into the conversation. Those are two completely different situations.
