Every once in a while you'll stumble upon a male who understands most girls aren't meant to do anything but collect pretty things and giggle and he'll genuinely think you're cute just for being useless, so it's vital that you chain him to your radiator and never let him go
something i’ve noticed in a lot of what i refer to as “pink-pill” content (i.e. if he wanted to he would, etc) is that if a man loves you, you can expect x behaviour. unfortunately, i really don’t think it’s that simple. a man’s capacity for love is limited by his understanding of it. if he’s never been modelled generosity, compassion, playfulness he won’t be able to inhabit those states, no matter how much he loves you. his idea of love is limited by his capacity.
that isn’t to say that love cannot transform, it is by its very nature transformative. but that’s where one has to decide as a woman how much we actually value this man in our lives and what we are or are not willing to accept. and i think what maneesha is saying is ultimately true, but from a different angle.
i think the focus really should not be on trying to parse, through someone’s behaviour, whether or not they love us, but rather to get clear on which behaviours we are or are not willing to accept in relationship. a child’s love is pure even though there is little to nothing they can “do” for us, because the love simply “is”. but as adults we are the captains of our own fate and we get to decide what sort of life we want to build and what treatment we’re willing to accept.
i’ve seen happy couples that have been together for 25+ years where the woman in the relationship accepted early on that there was much she would have to effectively “teach” her man. this was an acceptable trade off for her because he was simply the one. it was worth it. a case could be made that if you’re unwilling to be patient with your partner as they learn how to love you, you might not love them as much as you think. obviously this entire argument goes both ways.
no one is easy to live with.
bring back women having oddly specific personal traditions. peach cobbler on the first cold night. fresh flowers after payday. a solo birthday breakfast. champagne when something scary works out. give your life some folklore.
There’s a woman on TikTok who starts every video by saying, ‘Hi, I’m a lesbian, and I show you how to do things men pretend are difficult.’
What an absolute QUEEN! 👑
I wish more men AND women would just say, “I wasn’t taught how to date properly. I’m interested in you though, and I’m willing to learn how to show you that in a way you can actually receive. Just be honest, intentional and teachable. I can work with “I don’t know how.” I cannot work with “this is just how I am” while you proceed to stress me the hell out
A man calling you "baby" means nothing. A man calling you his girlfriend means nothing. A man giving you a baby means nothing. I'm about to hurt some feelings with this next one... A man marrying you means ΝΟΤΗING. You know what actually means something? A man changing himself, his lifestyle, and his ways because he doesn't want to lose you. THAT'S what means something.
Why do I always have to be the understanding one? Why am I always expected to be patient, to give grace and to see things from everyone else’s perspective, while no one stops to see mine? Sometimes I don’t need another reason or explanation. Sometimes I just want someone to meet me with the same understanding I’ve always given them.
