I still can't wrap my head around the fact that there are still 50,000 people missing from the Venezuela earthquakes.

Imagine if a disaster of that scale happened in the US. Fifty thousand people is roughly the entire population of Palm Springs, California. Picture every single resident of that city just gone.

If that many people vanished under rubble in a Western country, it would be the only thing on every news channel, every single day, for months.

Instead, it feels like this massive tragedy has just been brushed under the carpet by the mainstream media cycle. The sheer scale of the devastation in places like La Guaira is unfathomable, yet the world has largely looked away.

Every single one of those 50,000 missing people is someone’s child, parent, or friend. The global silence around this humanitarian crisis is deafening.

Just took my little boy to the doctor after noticing a ton of bubbles/foam in his pee.

They ran every test, kidneys, diabetes, the works.
Turns out it was a UTI, and had to send sample to an over night lab to see what kind. It was not a usual kind of UTI infection. The bacteria?

Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 🫠🫠

The pediatrician asked if he has been swimming a lot. Yes.
Sitting around in wet swim trunks? Also yes.
She nodded like that explained it.

But then today she called. We need a children’s hospital urologist appointment. This isn’t a typical bacteria infection for a kid his age.

I dug in. This bacteria thrives in immune compromised people. Or through nosocomial infections. He has not been in any hospitals recently.
It’s also linked to pneumonia and sepsis cases.
Pseudmonas aeruginosis is an extremely hearty bacteria and does not die from chlorine in pools.

He has had no pain, no bathroom complaints from him, just those strange bubbles.

In the South, USA right now, with Covid still rolling through, I can’t help but try to connect the dots.

Walking pneumonia at the pool from a silent carrier? Or something deeper like a secondary infection from these endless Covid waves everyone around me pretends is over?

I am heading in for more answers, but the weight hits different.
In a world that screams the pandemic is history and refuses the simplest precautions, even a summer swim turns into a mystery.
How many more “strange” infections before the world admits we are still in this pandemic?!
