Across our region, many women are transforming the lives of their families through small businesses that support livelihoods and strengthen communities.
Today in Djibouti, I handed over outdoor market umbrellas to Women Initiative Djibouti to support local women in growing their daily economic activities. Together with recent capacity-building trainings, this reflects our continued commitment to women’s economic empowerment across the region.
The media is not a spectator to Africa’s transformation, it is a driving force. As digital innovation and AI reshape the landscape, they expand access to information while also risking the spread of content that erodes trust.
Today, at the Annual Pan-African Media Summit 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya I called on the media to shape narratives that reflect our realities and define our future, as a guardian of truth and a force shaping society.
At IGAD, we remain committed to advocating media sustainability and safeguarding editorial integrity across our Member States and beyond.

The #IGAD Mediation Reflection Conference in Nairobi has successfully concluded, with a strong call to sustain dialogue beyond the two-day engagement.
Bringing together seasoned mediators, experts, and researchers from the IGAD region, across Africa, and globally, the conference took place at a critical time, when conflicts continue to carry profound human, economic, and security costs.
Participants emphasized that the true measure of effective mediation lies not in rhetoric, but in tangible outcomes: wars prevented, tensions eased, and meaningful pathways to peace created.
IGAD’s Executive Secretary, H.E @DrWorkneh underscored mediation as the most viable pathway to bringing parties to the table, fostering dialogue, and laying the groundwork for sustainable political solutions.
