Chuck LaVetter had a storied past in addition to coaching 36 years at Eastern Arizona College, where he led the Gila Monsters mostly in men's basketball but also in baseball and women's basketball. He played and coached with the @ArizonaMBB team under Bruce Larson, including a stint as the assistant coach under Cedric Dempsey of the Wildcats' freshman team in 1965-66. The brother of late legendary Pueblo and Rincon/University coach Roland LaVetter, Chuck passed away Saturday at age 84. Deepest condolences to his family, including nephew Lance LaVetter, the AD at Rincon/UHS.

I've learned that former Eastern Arizona athletic director and Men's/Women's basketball coach and ACCAC Hall of Famer Chuck LaVetter has passed away. He started coaching at EAC in 1966 and retired after the 2001 season. He won over 500 games as a basketball head coach at Eastern.
@cbables2@KVOA Most districts allow it and charge more. Family would have understood if they said no in May-July. Mistakes in the video. They never were trying to have ESA pay. The problem is saying yes in writing 2x, letting her tryout & practice w/ team & yank her. No cake is being eaten.
@Juno895_Plays @KVOA I totally agree. The idea was for her to meet friends, expose her to fun stuff at school, & to try to get her back to in person learning. Covid did a number on so many of these kids. If they would have said no in the months leading up, the family would have understood.
@plowmanlm@KVOA Most importantly think about the child, @cfsd16 should let her finish it out, she may have returned to school the next year. Schools still get $ from property taxes & federal $. Most districts allow it & just charge more. This district is too to short sighted to find a solution
@CFSD16 you should fix this, let her participate. If you don’t have a policy that’s your fault! Don’t punish a child. Call an emergency vote today! county property tax federal money goes to you! You don’t care about the psychological well being of our kids. immoral & unethical

A 15-year-old homeschooled girl from the Catalina Foothills, has been denied participation in the Catalina Foothills High School cheerleading team, despite initially being told she could join. https://t.co/HtwuToE3iu
@melibishop@TucsonMelMel@RJ4arizona@KVOA@CFSD16 The district is acting based on an unwritten policy- 🧐
🚩Ask the school board when they will put the topic of home educating ESA families participating in sports/ extracurricular activities on their agenda
🚩Other districts are making those decisions or have already made them
@MommyLobbyAZ@TucsonMelMel@RJ4arizona@KVOA@CFSD16 No policy in place by the district & making it up as they go along, they could make it right this year, instead they are crushing my teenage girl. So much for trying to get her back into school. At least, hopefully others will realize not to send their kids to @cfsd16.
@RJ4arizona maybe you can help. My daughter wrote this letter to @kvoa and many letters have been written to @CFSD16. I can send you all emails for your files. “My name is Logan, I am a 15-year-old student currently being homeschooled in the Catalina Foothills School District..
@TucsonMelMel@MommyLobbyAZ@RJ4arizona@KVOA@CFSD16 more aware of this important distinction. However, the District cannot make individual exceptions to a general policy. We do realize that the timing of this is unfortunate, but the District cannot allow Logan to participate on the JV Pomline.”
@TucsonMelMel@MommyLobbyAZ@RJ4arizona@KVOA@CFSD16 it decided to offer for purchase. It has not done so.
We appreciate that the school-level staff may have some lack of clarity regarding the distinction between homeschoolers and ESA recipients who choose to homeschool. We will make sure that, going forward, all school sites are
@MommyLobbyAZ@TucsonMelMel@RJ4arizona@KVOA@CFSD16 That what happened. I called the district 1st & they referred me to the HS. They gave her permission in writing 2x, let her tryout, practice for a month & last Wednesday removed her. 5 emails pleading w/ them. Latest email from high powered attorney is no exception will be made.
