The Coalition condemns the Ottawa Police Services Board’s decision to increase the OPS budget by $13.2 million, a vote made moments ago. While we are not surprised, it is disappointing to see the lack of active listening.
Is this how we treat our community? @dianedeans We first betray them, traumatize them, spend approx $12 k + of tax payers $$ towards an operation NO ONE is answering to and then dump their personal belongings at a @ottawacity dumping ground? Shame. Shame. Shame.
(Continued..)
- Ignoring protestors right to take medication while detained.
- Ignoring statements of pain and discomfort from arrested protesters while detained.
- Trapping arrested protesters in transport vehicle without proper air ventilation underground for over an hour.
@tyler_wicks@CBCOttawa@DiasporaOttawa@J4Abdirahman It seems taking up space at parliament hasnt done much, Trudeau taking a knee year after year has left over 60 communities STILL on boil water advisories. Peacufully taking up space until they actually listen seems to be the only way lately tbh.
About 100 people are chanting "Black lives matter, respect Indigenous sovereignty" on the street outside the Ottawa police station after 12 BIPOC defenders were arrested at a protest in the early hours of this morning. They are starting to be released now. "Free them all!"
.@atu_279 were your members driving @OC_Transpo buses helping @OttawaPolice arrest Black and Indigenous community leaders last night? Issue a statement asap. We expect your members to refuse this work.
.@OttawaPolice@JimWatsonOttawa release all We Are Related community leaders now! How dare you pretend to want to work together and then arrest them in the middle of the night. SHAME.
This is not the community we want.
UPDATE: We have learned that @OttawaPolice were using @OC_Transpo buses & paramedics as part of the arrest of peaceful protestors. Shame! And police still want a ⬆️ police budget? @JimWatsonOttawa@SteveKanellakos@ChiefDiMonte Why are you using non-police tax money to arrest us?
WATCH: The demonstration continues at a downtown #Ottawa intersection.

While Ontario's coronavirus outbreak appears to have peaked, modelling suggests it's still not contained in long-term care facilities. Authorities propose 3 main measures to flatten the curve: aggressive testing, more effective disease management, and more supports for workers.

Most members of council refuse to sit as today's big agenda gets underway, and have even brought standing desks to last the meeting in protest against their colleague, Rick Chiarelli. #ottnews#ottpoli#ottcity
