Abraham Verghese’s talks about The late P.M Meles zenawi on his 2025 Harvard graduation commencement speech! Abraham told graduates “ he hasn’t yet met a student as brilliant as Meles “
To die on an Easter Monday is so poetic, but this one hurts differently. A truly progressive Pope—one who did not hesitate to ask the hard questions and speak on difficult issues. One who did not mince his words, when everyone else was silent. Rest in power, Pope Francis.
Although I’m Muslim, I’ve always looked up to Pope Francis as an influential religious leader, human rights activist, & world peace advocate.
I attended a Catholic high school where I learned a lot about the Christian faith, the Pope, and the Vatican. The world truly lost a gem.
Deeply saddened by the passing of Pope Francis, one of the most diplomatic and respectful religious leaders of our time.
He always stood with the oppressed + marginalized and dared to speak out against injustices in Tigray, Palestine, and everywhere else in this corrupt world.🕊️
“Tedros has been a gift to global health. He has carried the awesome responsibility of a global agency responsible for the health of people in over 194 countries—with an annual budget that works out to about 85¢ per person—with courage and wisdom. His leadership is principled. It is authentic. It is outcome-oriented. And he has made the world healthier than ever.
Brilliant is an epidemiologist who helped eradicate smallpox”

Well this certainly didn’t age well.
Thank you for your service Wedi Reda, you handled your term with more grace than anybody else could and opened the doors for some much needed change. Tigray will never forget all that you did.🫡
It blows my mind that not too long ago both men were in the wilderness with rewards for their heads.
Thank you for your service Debrits & best of luck to interim President @reda_getachew. The people of Tigray, diaspora, & especially us youth expect a lot from your leadership.🫡
Unholy things unfolding in Tigray currently during the holiest time of the year.
Whether you’re fasting for Ramadan or Abiy Tsom don’t forget to say a prayer for Tigray + the safety, strength, & patience of our people, & for our leaders to make sensible decisions moving forward.
Over two years ago, my friend said that the 4th Woyane will be us against ourselves.. that stuck with me
Praying for peace in Tigray, the liberation of all Tigray’s land, and for the IDPs & refugees to return home
To the incredible women in my life — Gio, my daughters, my mother and my sisters —thank you for your strength and love. You inspire me every day. Happy International Women's Day!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with this amazing nonprofit, it’s named after Tegadalay Bilal, may he rest in peace and may Allah have mercy on his soul.
Bilal Aid has accomplished tremendous success in Tigray regarding recovery and rehabilitation. https://t.co/stPrUihWnf
Just went live on TikTok with BilalAid, a local charity in Mekelle I hold dear to my heart.
This Ramadan, they’re fundraising to provide Iftar meals as well as cover medical expenses for the IDP’s. I am personally collecting donations today, DM me if you’d like to contribute.💚
Ramadan Mubarak to all my friends, family, and followers celebrating. May this holy month purify our hearts, cleanse our bodies, and heal our souls.
May all our prayers get answered and may we come out of this spiritual fast better Muslims and better human beings overall.
