41 years ago tonight, September 26, 1985, Woody Harrelson introduced the world to Woody Boyd on the fourth season premiere of NBC’s sitcom “Cheers”.

One of the very best sets ever in film - the giant typewriter from 1937s "Ready, Willing, and Able".. Lee Dixon and Ruby Keeler - and a bevy of beautiful legs, type out a fantasy letter.. The routine was choreographed by Bobby Connolly (who later choreographed The Wizard of Oz). However, it heavily borrowed from the " Busby Berkeley Style" that dominated Warner Bros. musicals at the time.
It remains one of the most delightful sequences in film, and is a personal favorite of mine!

40 years ago tonight, Cliff Burton played his final show with Metallica.

It was September 26, 1986, at Solnahallen in Stockholm, Sweden, a stop on the Damage, Inc. tour behind "Master of Puppets." The setlist included his bass showcase "(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth."

Hours later, early on September 27, the band's tour bus crashed near Ljungby, Sweden. Cliff was killed. He was 24.

Forty years on, he is still the bassist so many picked up the instrument for.

For generations, its light helped farmers harvest after sunset.
