RM x SFMOMA newsletter with a personal message by #RM.
“I have dreamed of creating a space that transcends East and West, modern and contemporary, by adding works of Western masters whom I like, find meaningful, timeless, and contemporary.
I believe that works from Korea (especially from the 1950s to the 80s) have much to offer us today. Their attitude toward life and their work, in particular, is significant. They painted with the spirit of transcending their status as artists from a colonial, impoverished country. How many artists, like Van Gogh, were only recognized after they died, or have yet to be discovered and faded away?
I wanted to spotlight them and restore their dignity in the sanctuary I have created. And I believe that we should live our lives with that similar attitude.
RM.”
