I understand why my father was nervous about my sister and I protesting against the Iraq War
He spent his youth in a time when laws were ridiculous and if the police were brutal, malicious or corrupt in applying them, everyone shrugged and looked away
What the Ashes needs now is unforeseen levels of bastardy from the Australians. painting a tunnel on the sightscreen and making Dom Sibley run into it. dropping a piano on Ollie Robinson. convincing Joe Root to kiss a bunch of dynamite sticks dressed up in a sundress and hat
Dear Australian Republic movement, now is the time for a campaign! The British PM is even helping you out! Just need an active royal to go on about the spirit of cricket and you'd have a home run!
I like how English cricket supporters on Twitter not only blame Australian cricketers for being abused by drunk, posh twats but use racial slurs while doing so
Anyway, my 7yo and I talked about periods (again) this weekend
(Best part of talking about periods with your kids? They can grab pads or tampons for you when you need them)
I remember when we had to tell the (male) principal that they needed to get sanitary bins in the Junior toilets (up to 8/9 year olds) or stop complaining about year 3 kids in the senior toilets
I love when my daughter gets a different swimming teacher. They always bring something new to the lesson.
Today's is brilliant. There's been dinosaurs, rubber ducks, targets and rings of (imaginary) fire
"women aren't learning to cook their grandmothers' family recipes" sir my grandmother knew 9 different ways to serve cold shrimp in unflavoured jello, her family recipes should be sealed away in the undersea lightning cage they used to contain the Titans in Disney's Hercules
(I'm making baby shorts for my daughter's teacher who is due later this year. The sewing shop lady suggested making a pair of Christmas ones as a little extra)
My local sewing shop is closing down (sob - the owner is retiring and they couldn't find a buyer) - but I love that when I went in last week the staff there still had excellent sewing advice to pass on
