The 167th #IncomeTaxDay celebrations concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. G. Aparna Rao, Member (TPS & R), CBDT. She expressed her gratitude to the Hon'ble Finance Minister, Smt. @nsitharaman, for gracing the occasion and inspiring the Department with her insightful address. She also thanked the distinguished dignitaries, members of the media, and organisers of the event for their presence and support.
A short film on the 'History of Taxation in India' was presented. Tracing the evolution of India's taxation system from the Mauryan Empire over two millennia ago to the modern era, the film takes viewers through ancient and medieval tax practices, the introduction of income tax in 1860, and the journey leading to the Income-tax Act, 1961.

Hon'ble FM Smt. @nsitharaman released six key publications of the Income Tax Department on the occasion of #IncomeTaxDay.
The publications are part of the Income Tax Department's continued efforts to promote knowledge sharing, capacity-building, tax transparency, and taxpayer-centric governance.
Avlokan: The inaugural Annual Report of the FT&TR Division, documenting its work in international tax policy, treaty negotiations, Exchange of Information, MAP and APA, while showcasing India's growing leadership in international taxation.
Manual on Exchange of Information: A practical guide on effective use of information exchanged under tax treaties.
Guidance Note on FATCA & CRS: Updated guidance for Reporting Financial Institutions on due diligence and reporting obligations.

Annual Report of the APA Programme: Showcasing the programme's progress, including a record 220 APAs (including 84 Bilateral APAs) signed in FY 2025-26.
Re-engineering Tax Governance: The book chronicles the journey of the Directorate of Systems as it transformed the Income Tax Department from paper-based processes to an integrated digital ecosystem that connects taxpayers, institutions and information, making tax administration more seamless, transparent and taxpayer-centric.
Hon'ble Finance Minister Smt. @nsitharaman described the implementation of the Income-tax Act, 2025 as a landmark reform that marks a new chapter in India's tax administration by simplifying the law, reducing compliance burden and strengthening ease of doing business. She highlighted that the Department's role has evolved beyond tax collection to delivering fairness, transparency, efficiency and taxpayer-centric services, supported by a stronger digital ecosystem, improved return processing, prompt refunds and effective grievance redressal.
The Hon'ble Finance Minister emphasised that the next phase of reforms should focus on the 5Rs of Responsive Tax Governance-Recognise, Respond, Redress, Reflect and Reform-to ensure timely, empathetic and systemic resolution of taxpayer concerns. She also called for a shift from litigation management to litigation prevention, anchored in the three Cs of tax certainty - Clarity in taxpayer obligations, Consistency in the application of law, and Continuous institutional learning. She highlighted that technology must remain smart, non-intrusive and citizen-centric while promoting voluntary compliance. She stressed that taxpayers should be served with humility.
Highlighting the importance of modern infrastructure, continuous capacity building and a future-ready workforce, she urged the Department to deepen public trust through innovation and service. Congratulating the officers and staff of the Income Tax Department, she expressed confidence that they would continue to contribute to the vision of #ViksitBharat2047 through a transparent, efficient and trusted tax administration.

Revenue Secretary, Shri Arvind Shrivastava, described the implementation of the Income-tax Act, 2025 as a landmark reform that has simplified the tax law, making it clearer, more accessible and easier to comply with. He highlighted that the new Income-tax Rules and Forms, developed through extensive public consultation, have modernised the procedural framework while strengthening digital compliance and participative governance.
He appreciated the Income Tax Department's nationwide taxpayer outreach through PRARAMBH and Kar Setu, which helped taxpayers understand and transition smoothly to the new law. He also commended the Department's progress in improving taxpayer services, faster return processing and refunds, effective grievance redressal, and sustained efforts to reduce litigation through clearer laws, simplified procedures and greater tax certainty.
Emphasising that the next phase of reforms should focus on quality service delivery, he called for greater use of technology, data analytics and faceless systems to make tax administration smarter, more transparent and non-intrusive while promoting voluntary compliance.
He stressed the importance of building a future-ready organisation through continuous investment in people, integrity, professionalism and innovation. Congratulating the officers and staff of the Income Tax Department, he expressed confidence that the Department would continue to strengthen public trust, support ease of doing business and contribute to the vision of #ViksitBharat2047.

Shri Ravi Agrawal, Chairman, CBDT, welcomed the Hon'ble Finance Minister, Smt. @nsitharaman and distinguished guests, and recalled the priorities outlined by the Hon'ble Finance Minister during the previous Income Tax Day and at the PRARAMBH programme earlier this year, which have guided the Department's work over the past year.
He highlighted the Department's sustained efforts to reduce litigation, deliver faster taxpayer services, issue timely refunds, strengthen grievance redressal, enhance tax certainty, and deepen taxpayer engagement through initiatives such as PRARAMBH and Samvaad.
Emphasising that technology should make compliance simpler, he highlighted key digital initiatives including PAN2.0, ITBA 2.0, CPC 2.0, INSIGHT 2.0, IEC 3.0, Kar Saathi and the SAKSHAM NUDGE framework, aimed at enhancing taxpayer experience and promoting voluntary compliance.
He thanked the Government for its continued support in strengthening the Department's technological and institutional capacity. He also acknowledged the contributions of all CBDT verticals and the officers involved in framing the Rules and Forms under the Income-tax Act, 2025. He also thanked the retired officers and officials of the Department, observing that the Department has been built over generations by their dedication, professionalism and commitment to public service.
Reaffirming the Department's commitment to a fair, transparent, trusted and taxpayer-centric tax administration, he said the journey ahead would continue to be driven by innovation, collaboration and public service.
