Today, Brad Lander, rabbis, and other New Yorkers accompanied Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. For that, they were detained by the Israeli government.
Harvesting olives is not illegal. The occupation is.
I am thankful that Brad has been released. But other New Yorkers remain detained, and they must be released immediately.
The same Israeli government detaining them has committed a horrific genocide against Palestinians, killing more than 74,000 people over the last few years alone.
The detention of these New Yorkers must end. The occupation must end. The genocide must end.
Women, we are all one traumatic event away from being that “gross crackhead whore” on the street that you gawk at and judge. She is us, if the world was crueler to us, and we had no refuge in family or home for us to go. Never think you are different or better than her.
I came across this image and immediately thought of Leo. I wish I could hear him say, “Don’t worry, I’ll always be with you.”
Leo was more than a cat to me. He was my family, my little companion, and a piece of my heart. During the war, hunger took him from me. I still think about how helpless I felt, and how much I wish I could go back and give him everything he needed.
I would give anything for one more day with him—to hold him, hear his little voice, and remind him how deeply he was loved. The war took him away, but it could never take the memories or the love I still carry for him.
I miss you every day, Leo. You’ll always be with me in my heart. 💔
If you’ve ever lost a cat you loved, tell me their name or share a memory of them. I’d love to remember them with you.
