@RKiesewetter Any ceasefire which leaves millions of Ukrainians under Russian occupation is unacceptable.
Under Russian occupation Ukrainians face filtration camps, torture, killings, rape, deportations and denial of basic services unless one accepts Russian citizenship.
Pleased to catch up with Shadow Foreign Minister @tedobrienmp to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine, the evolving security landscape, and the growing strategic links between European and Indo-Pacific security.
I expressed my sincere gratitude for Australia's steadfast bipartisan support for Ukraine. We also discussed opportunities to deepen defence and economic cooperation, including stronger engagement between our defence industries.
Russia's war against Ukraine has demonstrated that the security of Europe and the Indo-Pacific is increasingly interconnected. Continued cooperation between like-minded democracies remains essential to defending the rules-based international order.
For an idea as to the damage and irreplaceable nature of the Russian military manufacturing centers that are now being regularly destroyed by Ukrainian Forces, a look inside the facilities of the (now gone) Voronezh missile and air defense unit factory.
Putin is officially running out of "meat" for his meat-wave attacks, and the situation is getting Bloomberg-level dark in Russia. 📉🇷🇺
According to leaked sources from the FSB and the Kremlin reported by Verstka, Moscow is quietly preparing for a massive new mobilization wave this fall, right after the September elections. But shhh... don't call it "mobilization." That word scares the locals! 🤫
The math is simple: Russia's casualties hit a staggering 1,325 soldiers PER DAY in June. The massive cash bonuses aren't working anymore; contract sign-ups in Moscow have plummeted by a third compared to last year.
Now, recruiters are scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel. They are literally picking up homeless people from the streets and convicts from prisons who are so old and sick they can barely stand. The quality of the new recruits is so terrible that one Russian recruitment officer admitted: "I used to be a patriot, but after seeing the people they send me, I became totally unpatriotic." 😂🤦♂️
This time, the Kremlin has set up a digital draft system that automatically blocks your passport the second the email is sent—so no running away to Georgia or Finland like in 2022.
Putin wants to drag this out for 2-3 more years, but when your army consists of sick, forced convicts, "winning" looks like a very distant dream. Grab the popcorn! 🍿👀

Everyone remembers the deeply missed @SenJohnMcCain's quote: “russia is a gas station masquerading as a country.”
It is less and less a country, more and more a failed state—and it isn't even a gas station anymore.
⭐️🇺🇦 Another big score for Ukraine: Russian relay stations are no longer operational in Belarus.
President Zelenskyy said he is unsure if they’ve been dismantled, but he’s closely monitoring the situation.
@polidemitolog Not one square kilometre of Ukraine should remain under Russian occupation.
The only useful negotiations are being conducted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
@Euan_MacDonald Anyone proposing that Ukraine accept occupation should be ignored.
This is Ukraine.
And leave “negotiations” to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Putin: “These [Ukrainian] drones, these strikes on civilian infrastructure -- what are they for? To destabilize society. Of course, under such massive pressure, when the entire West is working for them, with drones pouring in in huge numbers... The goal is to create some uncertainty about the actions of the Russian armed forces. And what is happening at the front, they conveniently leave out of the discussion. But our guys are pounding them there every day. Every single day.”
A pathetic, washed-up, failed old despot who got smacked in the face, suffered a humiliating setback, and now seems lost and bewildered, with no idea what to do next.
🇷🇺 BROWDER: PUTIN IS TRAPPED BY THE WAR HE STARTED
“Putin cannot end the war from his side, because if he were to do so in the current situation, he would probably be removed from power.
And if he is removed from power, he’ll end up dying. He’ll be put in jail, his money will be taken away, and he’ll be hanged from a lamppost.” - Bill Browder
For Putin, the war is no longer only about Ukraine. It has become a personal survival mechanism, and that makes the Kremlin even more dangerous.
In other words, Russia is plugging its budget deficit by lending money to banks so they can lend money to the government so it can spend money it doesn’t have. The macroeconomic equivalent of Putin Venmoing himself.
Looks like Ukrainian long-range sanctions are working 💥
Putin would never be able to sustain his war on Ukraine and the West without China’s direct and indirect support. China is in no way neutral in this war.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been a masterclass in military failure.
Nearly 4.5 years in, Moscow holds less land than it did three weeks into the full-scale war, and has also failed to capture a single regional capital city.
The arrogance of the Kremlin at the start of the full-scale invasion was pathetic. They truly believed they would easily dismantle Ukrainian sovereignty and install a submissive puppet regime.
In the chaotic opening weeks of March 2022, Russian forces rapidly seized between 25% and 30% of the country. However, their momentum shattered with their defeat in Kyiv, and they have been losing the wider war ever since.
The raw data reveals a truly pathetic performance by the Russian army. Ukraine protected 23 regional capital and special-status cities at the start of the full-scale conflict, and it still securely controls all 23 of them today. Russia briefly occupied Kherson, yet they quickly lost it to a Ukrainian counteroffensive. A score of zero out of 23 tells the entire story. 0/23!
It is a catastrophic failure that Russia holds far less territory now in 2026 than it did during the first month of the war. They are still grinding away at Chasiv Yar in 2026, a reality that is thoroughly ridiculous for a supposedly elite military.
This total failure has cost Russia roughly 1.5 million casualties. Even with substantial material help from foreign regimes and the deployment of North Korean troops to the front, Moscow has achieved nothing of value.
The war will end in a Russian defeat, though the timeline remains long because Putin will never surrender voluntarily. We must force his hand. Now is the ultimate window of opportunity to support Ukraine by funding massive quantities of strike drones and missiles. Ukraine is utilizing highly effective mid-range strike drones right now, and European governments must send immediate financial support today to finish the job
