There are more than 600M ppl in the region but whenever summits take place, most of the time, there are only male heads of government making solitary hand gestures. Today #IWD2024, I am thrilled that my op-ed article for @AIIANational got published.

I’ve started to earn a little on X, usually $20 to $40 every two weeks. I’m setting aside $50 monthly to support independent Cambodian reporters, journalists and freelancers who document news stories carefully and base their work on verifiable facts. This month is the first round, and I’ve decided to contribute to Noan Sereiboth and Mech Dara. I’ve followed their work for years and have seen the consistency and grounded ethics they bring to reporting in a sometimes challenging environment. I appreciate their work and wish them well. For field work, research or on the ground reporting, they are reliable contacts.

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia would like to inform the general public and the international community that, according to received information at 10:49 a.m. on 3 August 2025, the Thai military, in cooperation with Thai authorities, has instructed its remaining civilians in the border area of Surin Province to evacuate by tonight.
The same sources also confirmed that the Thai military plans to launch attacks along the border starting from the Tamone Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, Preah Vihear Temple, up to the Anseh area. These attacks are expected to commence soon, prior to the scheduled meeting of the Extraordinary Meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) on 7 August 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
This planned offensive constitutes a violation of the territorial sovereignty of Cambodia before the GBC meeting, and it is a serious breach of the ceasefire agreement mutually agreed upon by both countries on 28 July 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, with Malaysia, the United States, and China as witnesses.
Cambodia appeals to the international community to help prevent this at all costs and urges the Thai side to immediately stop its planned aggression, if this information is true, and to respect the ceasefire agreement fully for the sake of peace and stability along the border areas of both countries and the entire region.
Press Release from the Spokesperson of theMinistry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia , Phnom Penh, 3 August 2025
Babies, the elderly, the sick & other evacuees have been living in tents under 33-35°C heat for nearly two weeks already. Imagine if they were your babies, kids or parents in these tents? They still can’t go home, fearing the Thai military may find excuses to break the ceasefire.
We have kind hearts. Having good & kind neighbours like him is a good luck for life. Not only we’re like family, we take care of each other in difficult times. When our soldiers were lured to be captured, I can imagine how shock they got when their trust & kindness got betrayed.

World Leaders welcome the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. As a party deeply committed to the full and unwavering implementation of the ceasefire agreement. Cambodia’s resolve to maintain this ceasefire is absolute and enduring. Cambodia rebuts Thailand’s false allegation
Nobody ever wants this - needing to evacuate, living in fears & seeing one’s beloved family member(s) risking their lives in conflict. I can only wish everyone a safe return home & hope things will return to normal soon.
Displaced People Return Home with Hope, Yet Remain Vigilant
ODDAR MEANCHEY--Displaced people in Samraong district have begun returning home as calmness returns, following a ceasefire observed since midnight on July 28.
Penh Pheap decided to leave the safe zone and return home, passing her family sitting nearby on a Koyun, a two-wheeled tractor loaded with various items.
She said her whole family hopes the situation improves, but they remain vigilant by keeping their essentials ready. If anything unusual happens again, they will return to the safe zones.
"No generation wants to experience such conflicts, but we had no choice, so we had to move for safety," she said
Donations Arrive for Those Unable to Evacuate
ODDAR MEANCHEY – Monks and donors from Siem Reap province brought donations to villagers living near the border clashes, as some were unable to evacuate in time due to various difficulties such as old age, lack of transportation, or financial hardship.
The villagers expressed joy after a ceasefire was declared yesterday between the two nations. Around 500 donation packages were distributed across several villages.

Oddar Meanchey – In Samraong, just 50 miles from the Thai border, a haunting silence hangs over the city. Streets that used to be bustling with life are now mostly empty, as most residents have fled in search of safety amid fighting.
Yet, even as conditions worsen, resilience endures.
A few residents, especially women running food stalls at the Samraong Market, refuse to leave. Facing the uncertainty, they sell fresh produce and household items under a sky that could erupt at any moment.
One of them is Ray, 69, who still operates her food stall with her husband's support at the deserted Market. She said she has to run and leave her stalls to find shelter whenever loud explosions are heard. However, she hopes the armed conflict will soon end.
