Today, I had the honor of addressing the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly under the theme: "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation." 🇺🇳🇿🇼

In a world facing intensifying climate shocks and conflict, humanity’s challenges know no borders. No nation can overcome them alone. To restore global trust, international law must be applied universally—not selectively. It cannot be a shield for some and a sword against others.

As Zimbabwe prepares to take its seat on the UN Security Council for the 2027-2028 term, we do so guided by our foreign policy: "a friend to all and an enemy to none." Our commitments are clear:

:Promoting preventive diplomacy and peaceful conflict resolution.
:Strengthening UN ties with the African Union to silence the guns.
:Advancing the crucial peace and security agendas for women and youth.

True collective security means reforming the Security Council to move past 1945 realities. Africa is united, sovereign, independent, and rising. The outdated "horse and rider" mentality and unilateral coercive measures have no place in modern global discourse.

Peace cannot endure without development. Domestically, Zimbabwe is proving what is possible. Through robust reforms, our GDP has grown three-fold since 2017. Zimbabwe is open for business! We are accelerating food security through climate-smart agriculture and leaving no one and no place behind through aggressive rural industrialization.

Let us protect the UN Charter, reject selective compliance, and build a fairer, more inclusive world for succeeding generations.

Another devastating fire, this time just after Boka Bus Terminus along Simon Mazorodze Road. The recurring fires across Harare should be a wake-up call. There is a clear need for deliberate policy and consistent enforcement of fire and building safety standards. Regulations cannot simply exist on paper while businesses and livelihoods are repeatedly destroyed.

At a time when incidents of this nature appear to be surging, one has to ask whether someone is sleeping on duty @hcc_harare . Where are the routine inspections, fire-risk assessments, emergency preparedness measures and proactive interventions?

Today, I had the honor of meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres in New York during the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly.

In our wide-ranging discussions on multilateralism, climate justice, water security, and global system reform, our message was clear: we come not merely as individual nations, but as one unified voice for Africa.

For too long, the international system has remained deeply unequal. True global peace and sustainable development cannot be achieved until the international financial architecture and global governance systems are structurally reformed to support developing nations fairly.

From advocating for robust climate adaptation financing to advancing water diplomacy for water-scarce nations, Africa stands ready to lead. We also firmly reaffirm that lasting stability requires the inclusion of women in global peace processes and the urgent resolution of ongoing international conflicts.

Thank you, Secretary-General Guterres, for recognizing Zimbabwe’s principled voice.

Together, as a united continent, we will continue to champion the development, equity, and future that Africa deserves.

Bulawayo is being left behind, and the excuses are running out. The housing backlog remains massive, Egodini has become a byword for delays and unfulfilled promises and too many projects appear trapped in endless talk while the city’s infrastructure and economy continue to suffer.

This is the consequence of leadership that seems incapable of turning plans into action. @DavidColtart may be a lawyer, but Bulawayo does not need more legal arguments or endless explanations, it needs decisive leadership, execution and measurable results.

Now the concern is whether the Ngozi Mine project will suffer the same fate. The problem has been there for years and Gvt steps in, the Mayor goes on campaign to deflate the project, mobilising everyone including civil society to challenge it. Enough of the talk. Deliver.
