It’s no secret that I’ve got a soft spot for Turkish football. One of my best friends is a @GalatasaraySK die hard 🇹🇷🦁 This is me on @CBSSportsGolazo enthralled by Osimhen’s first goal.

I’ve learned a lot about the rich history of football in Türkiye.

So even though José says nobody watches the Süper Lig, there is one person in the United States that appreciates Türkiye’s football for all its flaws, its excitement and its unpredictability.

There’s no denying a recent dark veil of skepticism and morally questionable incidents in Turkish football. I wish for a stronger direction towards a less dishonest future. And it will be a tricky path to untangle these complications.

But there is one thing that does remain intact: The passion from the fans. Star players come and go. Rich owners aren’t eternal. But those people in the stands have inherited and passed on the commitment for their clubs. From Eskişehirspor to Galatasaray, the love for football will always be genuine. That’s why I believe I’ve been touched by this fever. I see similarities in the football I grew up loving.

So despite its shortcomings and its much needed improvement, from my outside lens, I think I understand Turkish football and its supporters. Its problems. Its passions. Its emotions.
