@JasonSynaptic@Ford@FordMustang @FordPerformance It's the vanity plate for me.
One of these days, I'll be ready to reach out for us to chat about the neuroscience of learning! ... if you're interested, of course
@SueKinMA@ravenscimaven@WPI The ivory tower can get lonely and doesn't have the same impact (a 3rd tower, @WPI?) without a walk in the public square. End the siloes. Learn from each other/other disciplines. #MESH the fields (Math, Engineering, Science, Humanities).
@SueKinMA@ravenscimaven Came here for the inclusion of writing and effective communication in STEM ed, and then was even more pleasantly surprised to see a fellow @WPI alum touting the benefits of the project approach and WPI plan. We're long overdue for including comms training/ed in STEM.
@ChemistryKit OK, hope to catch you! Charm City (Baltimore) hosted the Grand Prix in 2011. It was fun to see! Having seen it in Montreal, too, I wondered whether any tech used has to change for different style cities/tracks. Thoughts?
@ChemistryKit I've enjoyed your Twitter feed, Dr. Chapman! Any idea which dates you may be in the DC/Baltimore/Arlington region? I'd love the opportunity to get a bite, talk science history and education, and set you up for the night.
@akilbello Perhaps the most important topics are not just citing problems/changes but positing solutions & analyzing data that inform them.
What have we learned from extensive remote learning in terms of resources we need? teaching strategies that work? training we need in place?
Read on for great #scicomm tips that are relevant now & always. Center your audience. Connect. Relate. Fall back on classic tenets of persuasive argument: establish bona fides (& that your aud. is heard), clarify your logic (in THEIR terms!), & show empathy. Ethos, logos, pathos.
student with a test soon at the end of our help session: "Alright, I'm pumped! I've got this."
Music to my ears. Now I'M pumped for the rest of my office hours!
narrator: Andrew is always pumped while helping his students. He's just now EXTRA pumped.
@JasonSynaptic THERE it is!
And I find teaching my students, even via Zoom, locks out the anxiety of the times.
Then I finish up, hit End Meeting for All, and it rushes back and hits me like a load of bricks. Fun!
@JasonSynaptic@Hoosierflyman@CMM_JHU But we could also throw in there that my attempt to be gracious at a Penn weekend and buying a second bottle of wine for our table of like 10 did NOT go over well after the fact.
