A lot of interfans have been asking me how we should spell the names of Faye and Atom’s characters in their new series in English.

And honestly… I have the exact same question. 😂 As far as I understand, there isn’t an official English version of the character names yet, right?

One thing to keep in mind: Thai names don’t always have one fixed spelling in the Roman alphabet. The same Thai name can be romanized in several different ways, depending on how the person chooses to spell it in English.

So, if I had to write the names myself for now, this is how I would do it:

"พาขวัญ" - a young woman from Northern Thailand who travels away from home to do an internship at a luxury car garage.

I would write her name as Pakwan (Pa-Kwan).

Then we have "พี่เกล", the cool, rough-around-the-edges female mechanic with a sharp tongue.

I would write her nickname as P’Gale.

But P’Gale is actually "มินทรา", the mischievous daughter of the garage owner, and the person who holds Pakwan’s internship fate in her hands.

And this is where it gets a little tricky...

The Thai name "มินทรา" can be pronounced "Min-Tra". Depending on the intended linguistic reading, particularly if the name follows a Pali-Sanskrit-derived pronunciation with the consonant cluster broken into syllables, it may also be read more fully as "Min-Ta-Ra."

So if it is pronounced Min-Tra, possible English spellings could be:

Mintra / Minthra / Mindhra

But if the intended pronunciation is Min-Ta-Ra, it could potentially be written as:

Mintara / Minthara / Mindhara

So for now, I think we should wait for the official English spelling before deciding which one is correct.

Until then… welcome to the fun and sometimes confusing world of romanizing Thai names. 😂🇹🇭

Sometimes I think the opposite side of the story might be that Faye sees everything that happens here. She always has and she often says and does things telling us she knows it all. What happened before the Y voting was all over the TL. Us pushing each weak, the trigger that pushed all of us in the last 2 days and the fire that ignited the whole fandom. How hard we pushed.
