“We did not create this fire, but we are here to help students understand it, show them how to use it, and above all teach them when not to use it, because while fire can create light and warmth, it also can burn.”
I helped train 23 faculty members in AI literacy this week and it was wonderful! And during our training, Google rolled out access to beta testers to GenAI within Gdocs and Google search, making the need to train all the more pressing.

Studying for exams? This paper found the ideal test prep regimen:
🌙Study before bed
🛌Sleep
☀Short review when you wake
In an experiment, long-term retention increased by 50% & it took less time! The key is combining both sleep & interleaved practice. https://t.co/Jnt3VhlK5b
Playing with @PromptStorm, a neat little ChatGPT plug-in that generates ALL kinds of prompts for learning and practicing across an array of subjects. Super useful learning tool for students (and teachers).
New article summarizing some of our work on how teachers can use AI to make their classes more effective, while removing some of the most annoying work. https://t.co/G7mfDX7ocw
This paper truly delivers and makes more sense of Generative Learning activities🤯
Fiorella introduces a framework that organizes Generative Learning activities into 3 modes with unique functions:

We enter the final day of #DimanDays filled with wonder and curiosity. And in service to this curiosity we shared the following excerpt from @perryzurn & @DaniSBassett's wonderful 'Curious Minds: The Power of Connection' in our message to faculty this AM. #ParticlesToPatterns
Now watching students work through the 2nd stage—collaboratively—of a two-stage assessment in Advanced Physics and I am not exaggerating when I say that there’s a real kind of beauty in what’s transpiring. #DimanDays
Look at 'Friend of Merck' @Doug98x also sharing the news this AM. The early bird gets the knowledge (or something). One step ahead of you, captain!

via @NYTOpinion Lots to process here! And with assessments just a few weeks away, lots of timely tips. @MerckCenter @Cerenz @DocStach https://t.co/o0OZMfjHnd
With it being a half-day, a much lighter series of offerings on deck for day 3—all of them appealing however with a wide range of experiences and subjects offered. There's a fairly elaborate 'Rube Goldberg' situation developing in Physics which is sure to draw attention.
Day 2 of #DimanDays saw a significant uptick in offerings and visits. Observers deployed a creative digital sticky note hack in the Jamboard, allowing them to write more about their observations. Want to see what we're seeing? Check the Jamboard link here! https://t.co/EkrkfGexNr
Thank you to author and Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia Daniel Willingham for speaking to our community and sharing his insights on how to help students regulate their own learning.
Day 2 of #DimanDays sees offerings in every class period, some areas outside of the academic day, and nearly every discipline. Bonus points will be given for creative handshakes in the hallways of academic buildings whilst visiting colleagues' classes.
Day 1 of #DimanDays is in the books! Trends appeared related to various dynamic classroom management practices and the complexity of teaching adolescents. A great start, bolstered by an excellent kick off talk and visit from @DTWillingham.
Families and interested alumni are invited to join us in Madeira Hall to hear from author and Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia Daniel Willingham.
He will give a talk about "Developing Independent Learners." To register, click here: https://t.co/asMJP0eAVw
📣 Big announcement 📣
Diman Days—The Open Classroom returns this April. An annual celebration of teaching, Diman Days seeks to promote, in the words of Lee Shulman, “teaching as community property.” We're thrilled to welcome scholar @DTWillingham to help us kick off the week!
