@NatBullard@shaylekann But there are examples of new networks in the US/Canada. Massachusetts has a pilot for geothermal heating that's essential communal/district heat. It's just the challenges mentioned above make it hard wherever you go, and costs for district heat are higher with low CO2 sources.
@NatBullard@shaylekann We've seen the data center-district heat opportunity in NL and IE too. In US we've seen district heat around campuses, especially universities and hospitals. Building new networks can be a challenge, because you need dense heat use and demand certainty (for sizing the network).

@trapezoidschme @BloombergNEF I think the report covers these caveats, but it's a fair point. This isn't to say H2 is *the* solution. It may be the only choice for a large ferlizer company, but I haven't done a comparison to myself to wider comparisons of renewables deployment. One for the research pipeline!
