@jabbawy Apps and the partner ecosystem in general is one of the main competitive advantages for our merchants and for Shopify. It's hugely important and will continue to be. That will never change.
One other major benefit of this new extension architecture is cheaper infrastructure costs which unlocks cheaper app costs.
No more order volume pricing.
No more usage pricing.
No more revenue sharing.
Metafields + Admin app extensions will usher in an era of cheaper apps.
The most important story of every business is the one about _why_ it exists. Pulling this story out of a business is hard to do well. I challenged our team to try anyway and I love what they came back with.
*This* is why Shopify exists.
That team on the Shopify CLI are amongst the sharpest sticks in the fort. I am grateful they are usually one step ahead of me, to the point that when I run into problems, they have already solved them with secret fixes I can adopt and drop into my workflow. Very unique tooling.
As Biden cancels (some) student debt, remember why the debt exists. A key Reagan advisor warned in 1970 that free college was producing the dangerously explosive "dynamite" of an "educated proletariat," and "we have to be selective on who we allow to go through higher education":
My son discovered that you can have 3 tabs of Duolingo open for 10 minutes and it will record 30 minutes on his teacher's end
My son also discovered that I don't think it's as cool as he thinks it is and now he has to sit next to me for 30 minutes a day when he does his homework
@kevinclark@Shopify The clean focus and crisp analysis you bring to the design craft elevates everyone around you. I know first-hand. ;) Congratulations on a well-deserved recognition of the work you do.
@jcolman Another autofictional novel with a similarly fragmentary form and feminist vibes is SPEEDBOAT: https://t.co/DO9R4pUSQC. But that one’s more challenging.
Wish I could read it again for the first time.
@jcolman Oh, Jon, read DEPT. OF SPECULATION: https://t.co/I7vW98ieyG. A story largely of tweet-sized fragments. It’s formally interesting, but not formally challenging.
“You have got permission to be imperfect” - @LolaOye . It was such a powerful and empowering design review feedback for a problem that doesn’t have a “right” solution.
Still completely shocked over @Shopify's decision to waive the rev share for the first $1 million you make with your app every single year.
This is literally going to change lives. It's going to create financial security for the first time for so many people.
