This is what we're up against.

This is a map of all the counties in the US. There are about 3,000 of them. According to https://t.co/3ChiqSFP9q there are about 90 cities that have stopped using #Flock cameras or ALPR technologies. That's cities, not counties.

To show us an approximate guess as to how much progress we've made so far and how much more we have to go, I've blocked out the States of NH and VT (that have banned ALPR's) and counted out an additional 30 counties (assuming it takes 3 cities to equal a county).

As you can see, we have a very long way to go.

If we ban this technology at the State level we can wipe out thousands of cameras at a time.

Unlimited tolerance is how open societies commit suicide.

Elon Musk just warned that societies holding incompatible values eventually hit a reckoning. Karl Popper made the exact same point in 1945 while watching fascists and communists use open societies’ own tolerance against them.

Popper wrote that unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If a society keeps extending tolerance to people who openly want to destroy it and refuses to defend itself, the intolerant win and tolerance dies with them.

He never demanded censorship first. Argue with intolerant ideas. Suppress them only when they stop arguing and start using force.

80 years later Musk is asking the same question: how much can a tolerant society tolerate before it stops being one?
