I watched a man come dangerously close to losing his temper at an airport gate because he was absolutely convinced the airline had unfairly refused to let him board his flight.

He had arrived at the gate roughly ten minutes before boarding was scheduled to close. From his perspective, he still had plenty of time, especially since the flight was not supposed to depart for another thirty minutes.

The gate agent scanned his boarding pass, checked the information on the screen, and then told him,

“I’m sorry, sir. Boarding has already closed.”

The man’s expression changed immediately. He looked confused for half a second, then visibly angry.

“What do you mean, boarding has closed? My flight isn’t leaving for another thirty minutes.”

The agent remained calm and explained that the aircraft door had to be closed before the scheduled departure time. The final boarding cutoff was earlier than the actual departure, and that cutoff had already passed.....
