Juneteenth didn’t mark the end of enslavement in the USA.
Not only did enslavement continue illegally for years, but to this day it remains legal to enslave incarcerated folks— a group that is disproportionately BIPOC.
Happy Juneteenth, but always remember the fight isn’t over.
This Juneteenth I commemorate Harriet Tubman, who freed herself and 70 more from the slavery and later led an operation to rescue hundreds of slaves during the Civil War.
happy juneteenth to EVERY black musician that paved the way for every musical genre, style, technique etc. that have been used throughout history by non black people but have never been recognized as black creativity!
