Everyone is demanding educational reforms.
Excellent idea.
But can we begin by reforming the media first?
Today, our biggest influencers are not our teachers but TV studios, WhatsApp forwards, YouTube channels and social media trollers. Some of them teach us to hate before we understand, react before we think, and choose narratives over truth.
Whether we call ourselves andhbhakts or wear any other political label, we've all been conditioned to become more partisan and more narrow-minded.
Forget educational reform. Reform the media first. A nation that is fed propaganda every day cannot be educated. It can only be conditioned.
College or office whatsapp group mein ab Modi ji ko koi support nahi karta. Pahle 20 ke group mein se 19 Modi ko support karte the aur 1 question. Ab 19 question karte hain aur 1 defend karne ki koshish
Things have changed and full credit goes to the arrogance of Modi ministers
Yes the language used by Gen Z is vulgar. But, the lot policing their language were mum when India’s PM called women “50 crore ki girlfriend”, “jersey cow” & “Cong ki vidhwa”. The same lot were mum when trolls followed by Modi routinely give out rape & death threats & rejoiced when Gauri Lankesh was murdered. Where has Gen Z learnt from? Do ask
SAURAV DISARMS AMAN WITHOUT RAISING HIS VOICE 🚨
AMAN CHOPRA: Journalists were attacked and women reporters manhandled. Do you regret it?
SAURAV 🔥: Absolutely. Violence has no place in CJP. We apologise to every reporter attacked. BJP-RSS goons were planted to derail the protest.
AMAN: But anyone supporting you is acceptable and anyone opposing you gets attacked. Am I wrong?
SAURAV 🎯: Completely wrong. Violence can never be justified. But understand the larger point: media must listen, course-correct and stop pretending sab changa si.
A few communication lessons for the Government, BJP and everyone in public life:
1. India’s biggest communication problem is TV news and MSM.
At least, that’s how a large section of people now sees it. They believe it has destroyed trust and poisoned public conversation.
You may not realise it now, but India’s biggest enemy is Indian TV news. It has now become your enemy too.
The more you use it, the more damage it is likely to cause.
After graduating from the @IIMC_India , my first job was at @IndiaToday because, like every journalism student then, I wanted to become like the great journalists I saw there.
Today, if a child wants to become a journalist, can any parent or teacher name three TV journalists as role models? Why not?
An aspiring cricketer has Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli or Yashasvi Jaiswal. Who does an aspiring TV journalist have?
In fact, many young people are told, “become anything, but don’t become a TV journalist”.
2. If you don’t want another protest that you neither understand nor know how to handle, rethink TV news.
Right now, it’s working against you, not for you.
Why should hardworking salaried reporters get all the hate for decisions taken by editors and owners?
Next time there’s a protest, ask the owners to stand in front. That alone could transform the TV news business model.
Seriously, why are the owners in hiding? Shouldn’t they also be accountable for damaging India’s socio-political fabric?
3. Don’t make the mistake of believing this happened because of Instagram.
And don’t make the bigger mistake of thinking Instagram can be fixed to defeat the Gen Z narrative.
It will backfire.
No matter what you do, you can’t manufacture authenticity.
4. Everyone even remotely in power should switch to silent mode for a while.
Ask the shouting spokespersons and television regulars to disappear for a while.
On the environment, send environmental experts. On the economy, send economists. On education, send educationists. On healthcare, send doctors and public health experts.
Stop relying on political performers who turn every debate, whether it’s about pollution, jobs, education or healthcare, into communal or factional politics.
Replace them with genuine subject experts.
5. We don’t want India to become Western.
But we must make India modern.
Stop celebrating regressive ideas.
Talk more about science, philosophy, art, poetry, creativity, innovation and the dignity of every citizen.
6. Fix our crumbling cities.
Clean our air.
7. Listen more. Let your work speak.
I hope this moment becomes an opportunity to rethink how we communicate with a new generation.
Looking forward to a developed, happy and innovative India.
This government has repeatedly sent one clear message: if you want something done, take your protest to the streets.
Farmers protested, and the farm laws were repealed. Students and youth protested, and the Education Minister eventually resigned. The lesson many people will draw is simple: if you are unhappy about issues such as the UGC regulations, the ethanol policy, the Ram Mandir donation controversy, or you want accountability on any issue, protesting seems to be the only way to be heard.
Yes, the initial response may be force. Protesters may face police action, restrictions, or arrests. But when public pressure becomes large enough, the government has repeatedly shown that it is willing to back down and make concessions.
Ironically, the only groups that often seem to get no response are those the government believes will never protest in the first place: the salaried taxpayer, many among the general caste middle class, and even sections of the BJP’s core supporters who disagree with specific policies. These groups are often expected to quietly accept decisions, while criticism from them is dismissed, ignored, or met with hostility from party supporters rather than meaningful engagement.
The India Against Corruption movement began in 2011, exactly three years before the 2014 general election. Today, we are standing at almost the same point before the next election.
Back then, many people felt the UPA government had become arrogant. It was accused of ignoring public sentiment, using heavy-handed policing against protesters, and even taking action against satirists and cartoonists. Corruption allegations dominated headlines, and for many voters, the government’s credibility had eroded.
When I look at recent controversies around issues like ethanol policy, events in Madhya Pradesh, paper leaks, and other public grievances, I see some striking similarities. The biggest similarity, in my view, is not any single issue. It is the growing perception that the government is becoming less willing to listen to criticism.
History does not repeat itself exactly, and three years is a long time in politics. Public opinion can change, governments can course-correct, and opposition movements can either gain momentum or fade away.
But as of today, Modi 3.0 reminds me in some ways of UPA 2.0. Not because the two governments are identical, but because both appear, at least to many critics, to be facing a similar challenge: the perception that prolonged power has led to complacency and arrogance. Whether that perception grows or the government successfully addresses it over the next three years could have a major impact on the next election.
Bit long because I have so much to say on this, an Open letter to Modi ji.
You think this was only a student protest? You think few people would name something like Cockroach Janta Party come and can force Modi Govt to make their minister resign?
No, students were just the face of protest, they got support from all section of the society because the kind of country this Govt is building around freebies, exploitation of income taxpayers and arrogant incompetent ministers, there is a huge disappointment against your Govt after 12 years.
You know why only students came to protest? Because they are hopeless about their career, they know most probably they will be jobless after traditional degree, they've nothing to lose.
Same with Farmers, they have become addicted to get freebies, and getting special treatment, so they've started to blackmail you now with their demands.
But unlike students and farmers You know why working class never hit road even after paying income tax and not getting anything in return?
Because working class are busy in life and work, they have a purpose, they have bill and EMI to pay. So they don't come on road against you even after exploitation.
The take away is,
> Don't promote freebies shamelessly
> Give people employment, make them productive and give them purpose in life
> Increase the number of income tax payers to reduce burden on existing ones
> Focus on building World class public infra, education and healthcare
Otherwise the 1-2% income taxpayers you have will leave the country whenever they get a chance and you'll have to deal frequent protest from unemployed and lazy people addicted to freebies, don't want to work or can't work.
Think beyond just winning elections otherwise after a point you won't even win elections doesn't matter how much freebies you distribute.
