At the beginning of this week, I attended the Chevening farewell event.
It feels like yesterday when I embarked on this journey, suddenly I am almost at the finish line.
Thank you chevening Scholarships for this once in a lifetime opportunity that gave me friends, colleagues and future partners in the field of public health and beyond.
I have positively grown in so many ways over the last few months and I can’t wait to use the skills.

In 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended the twice-yearly injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis, #Lenacapavir, for #HIV prevention.
This new innovation expands HIV prevention #choices, particularly for people facing challenges with daily adherence and those residing in stigma-dominated communities where accessing HIV services freely can be difficult.
By January 2026, Lenacapavir had been approved by several national regulatory authorities across eastern and southern Africa, including Mozambique. Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Zambia and South Africa.
However, #efficacy and regulatory approval do not always translate into effective #uptake.
Taking Tanzania as a case study. Condoms are highly effective and widely available, yet according to the Tanzania Demographic Health Survey, some age and gender groups still do not consistently utilise them.
This history changes our critical question from
“Does lenacapivir work?”
To
Are communities willing to use lenacapavir?
