Accra–Kumasi Expressway Project
This historic project marks Ghana’s first true expressway, a modern high-speed corridor linking Accra and Kumasi.
Stretching almost 200 kilometres from the coast to the forest belt, the expressway will transform travel and trade, cut journey times significantly, and boost growth across the southern regions.
The route runs southeast to northwest through the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, touching key towns like Adeiso, Asamankese, Akim Oda, Ofoase, and Kwaso.
In total, the highway covers 198.7 kilometres, including 23 kilometres of urban connecting sections in Accra and Kumasi built to a 4-lane standard at 60 kilometres per hour, and a 175-kilometre main expressway of 6 lanes designed for speeds up to 120 kilometres per hour.
It will stand as a symbol of Ghana’s commitment to modernisation, connectivity, and inclusive growth.
Today, I held a meeting with the hierarchy of the Ghana Prisons Service, led by the Director General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie. We discussed challenges facing the Service and how we can address them.
I also spoke about the need for strong public education and encouraged collaboration with other state agencies and the media. I commended the Service for its interventions, particularly its promising campaign in agriculture.
I assured the leadership of Government’s commitment to improving conditions within the Prisons Service. As a responsible nation, it is our duty to ensure dignified conditions for inmates, to offer meaningful reforms, and to provide the necessary support for their reintegration into society.
Monday marks seven years since the passing of former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who is remembered by many as a guiding force for good.
Today and every day, we remember him. https://t.co/GW8fas0Boc
We thank God for the gift of life and the blessings of a new week.
As always, the week is packed with meetings and activities, both in the constituency and here in Parliament.
From tomorrow, the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament will commence its public hearings to consider the Report of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of Ghana – Ministries, Departments and Other Agencies for the year ended 31st December 2024. This will be our first public hearing in the 9th Parliament.
I encourage you all to follow the proceedings closely.
May the Lord grant us the grace to excel in all our endeavours this week and beyond.
Have a beautiful week.
