🇵🇹 Is a Crypto Wealth Tax coming to Portugal?

I recently got asked a question that’s been on the minds of many digital nomads and crypto investors lately:

"Am I taxed on my total crypto holdings in Portugal? And if not, how long until they start?"

❌The short answer: No. Portugal does not currently have a wealth tax, and historically, it never had. But the follow-up question is usually where the real concern lies: "Can the EU force Portugal to introduce one?"

Technically, the EU has influence, but the "wealth tax" trend is actually moving in the opposite direction. While it's a popular talking point in some political circles, many European neighbors have tried it and walked away. Both Germany and Denmark, for example, abolished their wealth taxes back in the 90s after seeing the economic trade-offs.
