@ethanCaballero There’s no justification for what they’re doing with frontier LLM research. The only real reason is “I don’t want my competition to catch up” but in doing that, they’re limiting and slowing down human progress.
The good thing about Fable 5 is that AI labs can differentiate themselves just by being more honest and open about their models. They don't need to have the best model or beat Anthropic at their own game they just have to release a model that's good enough, without the constraints Anthropic shoves down our throats, and it would be just as popular.
My timeline is split between those who love Fable 5 because it one-shotted Minecraft and those who are disappointed by the safety guardrails and tired of Anthropic’s “concerns.”
It's crazy to me that China the communist country we've always known as authoritarian, dictatorial, and pro-censorship is the one contributing the most to open-source LLMs. Meanwhile, the USA the country we've always known as pro-freedom, pro-free-speech, and pro-market is the one hiding and gatekeeping its models the most.
Fable is an early look into the bureaucratic hell Anthropic wants to create in AI.
3 month delay to get released.
Randomly routed in biology, cyber and distillation.
Weird sociopathic quiet harmfulness in ml topics.
Goes away on June 22.
Have to apply to get access to 'real' Mythos.
What an exhausting tiresome dystopia.
I have a love-hate relationship with Anthropic. Their models are the best now with Fable it feels like another o3 moment but they treat their users like toddlers.
