To answer your question directly: functionally and mathematically, yes, they are doing virtually the same thing.

Dendritic summation and synaptic gating are literally what artificial neural layers formalize. A biological synapse scales the likelihood of a postsynaptic charge; a GPU weight scales a numerical vector. Arguing they are fundamentally distinct at the computational level ignores decades of computational neuroscience.

The underlying primitive doesn't disqualify the emergent phenomenon. If complex information routing, internal representations, and emergent reasoning can arise from biological switches, there is no physical law dictating they can't arise from silicon ones.

@maddturmoil Actually, I begin to see this is such a non-issue. Bra on or bra off, that guy should be able to manage his thoughts. If not, then he /is/ the problem and should seek professional help. But if he does reach that point, it's a matter of common sense put on a bra atp.

@maddturmoil He lives in the house too, he deserves to be comfortable. This is an actionable solution, but we're caught up in what should and shouldn't be. Having a problem is not a problem. It's a problem when we refuse to solve it.

@maddturmoil Shouldn't, wouldn't, couldn't, all idealistic word. Yeah, women shouldn't have to prevent anything in their household, but that's not always possible, so we need to be realistic. It's not even abnormal to be decent with family members, wear a bra if nipple pad feels too weird.
