Yes, the Sibuyan mining issue involves real people with real lives.
The issue necessitates urgent but nuanced action from various government agencies, branches, and LGUs. The Sangguniang Panlalawigan is opposed, but the Sangguniang Bayan has a Resolution endorsing it, so there are local dynamics still being ironed out. The DENR, as an executive agency, has the mandate and power to review the Certificates they released since the locals are clearly against the project and there are allegations of anomalies in the release of certificates. The legislative branch has the power to conduct inquiries in aid of legislation in response to the resistance on the ground. (Pero wala pa nga ang Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution that the Resolution for legislative inquiry needs as further basis.)
There are real people affected by the mining issue, with some of them being for the mining as seen in the Jessica Soho episode because they believe the project will improve local jobs and economy which shows this is a complex issue, but they also do not need performative, populist, and bara-barang aksyon just for the sake of it. Even the staunchest anti-mining legislators have not filed Resolutions on this because may inaantay pang documents sa lokal.
The person behind this account is fiercely anti-mining. Dupax del Norte pa lang last year nag-oorganisa na ako.
Yes, we need to speak out because real people are involved, but the Sibuyan issue is also not a buzz word for people to use to feel superior.
I have been holding back from posting this pero gamit na gamit niyo na masyado ang mga residente.
This is a welcome development.
