The Mets rallied in the Subway Series to walk-off the Yankees 9-8 at Shea Stadium. Pinch-hitter Matt Franco laced a two-run single off Mariano Rivera in the ninth.
The Yankees won 124 straight when leading after 8 innings prior to this game.
7/10/1984 Doc Gooden becomes the youngest player to appear in an All-Star Game at 19 years old. Gooden strikes out Lance Parrish, Chet Lemon, and Alvin Davis in two scoreless frames for the National League.

7/4/1985 The Mets beat the Braves 16-13 in a 6-hour, 19-inning affair. Keith Hernandez hits for the cycle, New York tallies 28 hits, and the bullpen pitches 16 2/3 innings. Though the game ends on July 5th, fans are still rewarded with postgame fireworks celebrating the holiday.
