🇲🇰 North Macedonia is a country with which Belgium shares deep and long‑standing ties. The vibrant Macedonian community in Belgium and our close cooperation in difficult moments — including last year’s Kočani tragedy — continue to strengthen our partnership. I was delighted with the fruitful discussions I had with my counterpart and friend @TimcoMucunski.

Our economic links are solid and growing, with Belgian companies contributing to shared prosperity and regional connectivity.

Belgium reiterates its strong support for North Macedonia’s European path. I re-emphasized that rule‑of‑law reforms, judicial independence, and the necessary constitutional amendments remain key to progress.

Belgium is committed to supporting North Macedonia, a reliable strategic partner, on its path toward the EU, toward stability, and toward cooperation and deeper integration.

🇲🇪🇷🇸🇲🇰🇽🇰🇧🇦🇦🇱 Starting today a 6-day working visit to the Western Balkans.
I will visit Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. I will visit Albania at a later stage, during a dedicated mission, when I will have the pleasure of opening our Embassy in Tirana.

Engaging with the Western Balkans is strategic for the security and the stability of our continent. The Western Balkans are not on Europe’s doorstep. They are in Europe. Their security is our security, their stability is our stability. Some of these countries have been waiting for more than twenty years to join the EU. It is therefore important to maintain a credible integration perspective, but the process remains merits-based : we expect them to have the courage to implement the necessary reforms, regarding the rule of law, the judiciary, the fight against corruption, and regional reconciliation.

Belgium is and will remain an engaged partner in the region, both politically and economically. I am here to deepen our partnerships.
