@ResearchEurope « Simplification »: with 27 Member States and 720 MEPs, that’s easier said than done 😊! For example, each new FP proposal gets several thousand amendments to consider.
This said, schemes like the ERC, which are reasonably straightforward, prove simplification can be achieved.
@quatremer Anecdote bruxelloise-européenne: Charpak - un homme de très grande valeur - etait venu nous expliquer que nous ne devrions pas soutenir la fusion (ITER).
De Gennes a fait de même.
@ResearchEurope « Institutional collaboration » isn’t in ERC’s DNA, which is about supporting bright ideas of smart individuals, wherever they are hosted.
It is correct though to say that the ERC’s key strength is the ability to mobilize their network of researchers to carry out the evaluation.
@ResearchEurope Rightly so! This would be a hijacking of the ERC philosophy, which is, first of all, about supporting bright ideas, independently from where they come from. This was made very clear with the concept of “grant portability”, enabling the grantee to decide which host suits best.
