@Osse_Lives the reactions are the plot? the way they act is the plot? if you strip anything’s story to a single sentence you can make it sound boring. you could also describe it as a dysfunctional, lower middle class family with three delinquent sons and thats 1. more accurate 2. less boring
this pattern of thought is why we have things like t*dc. there isn’t any story at all without a plot..characters are means to an end and nothing more. characters are tools to serve the plot.
Ive come to the conclusion that characters are 100% more important than plot. You can have a TERRIBLE plot but if the characters are genuinely fun to watch and view then it'll be worth consuming.
@tsukitoba345 well. a lack of payoff is typically an issue with the execution and the writing itself, rather than the plot. and i personally don’t think something being dissatisfying means it’s bad, per se..
see, the thing is, there’s not really such a thing as a bad plot. a plot is simply the events that take place within the story. the backstories of the characters you love are the plot, the interactions they have with one another are the plot; it doesn’t matter how ordinary it is.

every event that occurs is the plot. no matter how lighthearted and predictable the plot is, no matter how low the stakes are, every event is part of the plot. without a plot, there would be no characters; they cannot exist as an amalgamation of vague traits and nothing else.
i will not make a thread breaking down how fiction works. i will not make a thread breaking down how fiction works. i will not make a thread breaking down how
@tsukitoba345 the characters cannot truly be funny or interesting without a plot to shine in! characters themselves are abstracts of traits; not even a backstory or a demonstrated pattern of behavior, because those things are both plot. a character is not much of anything until there’s a plot.
mahoro fun fact of the day . . . !
mahoro is the ONLY member of millsage to have a hair accessory other than the flowers every member wears in her band uniform!
everyone in the qrts keeps talking about how the characters are the only reason they loved certain series, etc, but what they fail to realize is that they think this way BECAUSE the characters did their jobs as tools for the plot.
“characters matter above all else” is an extremely “fandombrained” (pardon the term!) way to view a story. if you wish to create, truly create and not just play dolls in front of an audience, you must understand that the characters are tools.
