Before contributing to a codebase, you:
• read the source
• search online
• ask someone
When you ask an AI agent to make a change, it:
• learns from the source code
• relies on its training data
• falls back to your prompt
Always ask: where is the required knowledge?
Not settling for AI slop doesn't mean writing everything by hand.
- Weigh diff size against feature value
- Make the agent justify complexity
- Judge the boundaries and structure
- Notice where your own diff would be simpler
Lead with your best assets: taste and experience.
I'm skeptical of Planning Mode.
You do not understand a project by describing all of it up front.
You understand it by starting.
Pick a vertical slice.
Sink your teeth and go deep.
Build something end-to-end.
Treat tricky engineering problems like writer’s block.
Get your thoughts flowing fast.
Dump them out, no filter. Pen+paper, a clacky keyboard, dictation, whatever works.
People stay stuck because the inner critic kicks in too early.
Judgment kills flow. Flow gets you unstuck.
@thibaut_barrere @YOOOODAAAA@philipbrown@z_4seven mise for sure!
Although it uses asdf-erlang by default, you can easily configure it to use https://t.co/ak7X5jODqC instead.
mise config set alias.erlang "asdf:michallepicki/asdf-erlang-prebuilt-macos"
Huge thanks to @wojtekmach and Michał Łępicki! 🫶
Screw it!
I'm giving away my guide on how to start a writing habit 🎁
I've procrastinated because I kept overthinking how to turn it into a product — but it doesn't need to be.
I've spent a lot of time writing it and I want people to read it.
It's 100% free! (link below)

@r00k Strong core, weakly held.
… I know there is a joke in there, still working on it. All of this to say that I’ve been realizing the same thing, albeit with different symptoms (back pain).
