@marlonrico BTW. New Motorola Flagship will have a fresh look and modern look, little bit similar to Oppos Find X3/X5 Pro, but made from two materials - there is really a lot to like about it.
No Edge 40 Ultra this year, unfortunately. Next Edge Flagship starts next year with big feature punch however (big camera upgrade, periscope comes back!)
@marlonrico My issue with this: if Moto is using the same sensor on so many different models (I forgot Edge 30 Fusion, Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 and ThinkPhone in my earlier list) from march 2022 on, - why don't they invest heavily just *once* to obtain a better camera software? would make sense
I wish Motorola would take a lesson from Oneplus and focus more on camera system. - if BK can offer Nord 3 with Sony IMX890 (150 points in DxOMark!) and all other bells and whistles for under 500€, - next 600€ Motorola phone (say, Edge 40 Fusion) should offer similar spec, imho
@marlonrico still, we should not forget, that Huawei P50 Pro also used OV50A, same as Moto Edge 30, 30 Pro, 40 and 40 Pro are using - offering much higher foto quality. So it is also about optics and software. - Motorola probably takes stock OV software, where Huawei made theirs with Leica.
Another option - you still offer it for 600€ (or sexy 599€), and then you just don't reduce the price so strong (like Edge 40 going from 599 to 379). Better camera in the beginning = more sales, so no fire sale needed at all. Doesn't it make much more sense?! @Moto@MotorolaUS
so I really don't get it. Why is Motorola so reluctant to offer better camera modules in their phones? Say, it cost 15 dollar or € more, and you offer the 600€-class-phone just 15€ more expensive with much better quality. Woundn't it still make (much) more sales possible?
@marlonrico Omnivision does not seem to focus on quality very much. Just mass producing medicore chips. However, there still are possibly better OV Sensors, like OV64A (1,32"/1µm that Legion Y90 is already using) or OV50H (1,28"/1,2µm) which still waits to debut in a smartphone.
@marlonrico Motorola Phones mostly depreciate in value, because they start way too expensive. And then prices fall instantly, - so whoever buys the phone at start price, and see the price developement - would think twice next time. Very unfortunate. Maybe I should seek a manager job @Moto :D
Unfortunately, G84 only looks like a (good) facelift for last year G71s/G82, not a brand new midrange phone. Reusing prev platform is great, but just new look + adding more memory and upping the price is not enough in late 2023! in 300€ price range, it badly needs more CPU power
@marlonrico I totally agree! Btw, I assume, A54 probably cost less to produce than A53. But OK, they need money for their huge advertisement activity. Which Motorola does not have in Germany. So if A54 started at 499, Edge 40 should have as well, at maximum. And adjust price accordingly.
@marlonrico 2/2 ... Samsung will soon start to sellout the current models, so the price will fall to as low as 299€ for A54 and 249€ for A34. Motorola should have brought Edge 40 @ max 449€ in the first place to instantly win Samsung buyers. But they rather always trail the competition.
@marlonrico 1/2 I look closely at the Motorola product strategy in Germany, and often don't like it. Edge 40 was clearly positioned to compete with Samsung A54, but started way more expensive, what made good sellout difficult in the beginning. Now it cost less than A54, but...
@marlonrico This is my point! they certainly don't loose money at this price, it is all calculated into the lifecycle. And 30 Neo is certainly way more expensive to make than G84. Thus: 12/256GB G84 at 220-230€ soon is certain imho. I dislike this kind of strategy, but it is how it goes.
@marlonrico BTW: Edge 30 Neo started at 399 with 8+128GB and reached 280 recently. - because of its age/EOL Status, you would say. But: an updated version (8+256) started recently for only 299 (279€ street price after 1 week), - so obviously, there is a huge margin, they plan with on start.
@marlonrico bringing it with a better processor could only make sense, if they would have planned to actually offer this at 300€, - but if Edge 40 only cost 2/3 after few months, - so I assume G84 299 -> 220-230€, Edge 40 Neo 399 ->270-300€ very soon. Then, G84 with 695 makes sense.
@marlonrico 2/2 and the answer is: this phone starts at 300€, but will be offered under 250€ very, very soon, maybe even close to 200€. - I think, they should just bring it for 250€ and not try to make it look like a good 300€ offer. BTW.: 599€ Edge 40 already cost... 379€ in Germany!
