Burns the CF here with a line drive triple. Compact athlete that can play multiple positions & handles the barrel at the plate. #KSElite
Forty years in this game. Here is what I have learned about the families who navigate it best.
They are not the ones with the biggest budgets. They are not the ones with the most connections. They are the ones who decided early that this is a forty-year decision, and started behaving accordingly.
They turn down the showcase that does not fit the plan. They pass on the travel team that promises exposure for a price. They put their son in front of honest evaluators instead of marketing departments.
They are not chasing baseball. They are building a man who happens to play it.
The trophy is the relationship you have with your son when he is thirty.
Hayden is headed to the 4A state championship game after edging Paola 2-1 Thursday in a classic pitcher’s duel at Tointon Stadium.
The Wildcats struck early in the first inning when Caleb Menke delivered a two-run double, providing all the offense Hayden would need in a tightly contested semifinal matchup.
Paola answered in the bottom of the first and battled throughout, but Hayden ace Connor Hanika controlled the game on the mound. Hanika tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits while striking out five to send the Wildcats to the state title game.
Menke led Hayden offensively, going 2-for-2 with both RBIs while Aiden Roberts also collected two hits. Defensively, the Wildcats played clean baseball without an error and turned a key double play.
Paola was led by Kayden Hendrickson, who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Mason Stein kept the Panthers within striking distance with a complete-game effort of his own.
Championship bound. #sportsinkansas

I can’t remember the last time I played catch with my dad. Thankful for being able to spend time with my family for Thanksgiving…these 10 minutes will be cherished forever. #blessed
