@drmattmc I don’t know what market privilege is…but I’m sure I am privileged and that skews views. It is also true that the rat race of working a ton for a ton of $ (300k, 500k,800k all A LOT of $) is a viscous cycle.
@drmattmc I don’t begrudge anyone needing the $, but for me the times I’ve been least happy in my career were the times I was getting paid the most. Once I just accepted I wasn’t going to be “USA rich” and just opted for happiness things were much better. Still rich by most measures
@rankingbeatles @McCartneyPod So good! I love this song for two reasons- 1. The effortless musicianship. 4 guys that can sit down and just groove like the most experienced rock band in the world and still sound like they r just chilling. 2. Rare Beatles song that is not overplayed. Always sounds fresh
@QOLloyd00_20 @NicoleMcMilllon Jordan wasn’t ring chasing. He was just curious what he had left in the tank playing for a rat team. Bron is chasing ghosts still. That’s why he is being judged
A meaningful life is not about material gain, power or fame; these are only of passing value. True meaning comes from an inner sense of peace and contentment, which in turn must be based on a sense of caring and love for others.
@Labosette31@klua11@espn@MiaOBrienTV Totally agree. Not my business. But it was his teams business and he lost his team by being inauthentic. The rumors, the ESPN story and the trade were all because of this
@klua11@espn@MiaOBrienTV First 4 years in seattle he was thought of as a great leader. It’s when he threw a game losing SB pick and then acting like rainbows were coming out of his butt that he lost any cred.
The Japanese term “Ikigai” or "reason for being" is the intersection of:
1. That which you love
2. That which you are good at
3. That which the world needs
4. That which you can be paid for
When they are young, children love to smile and readily respond to compassion. We must find ways to keep these qualities alive so they maintain a compassionate attitude and learn how to tackle anger as they grow up. Time at school should include methods to achieve peace of mind
Wisdom doesn’t come from experience. It comes from reflecting on experience.
Between ages 25 and 75, the correlation between age and wisdom is zero.
Gaining insight and perspective is not about the number of years you've lived. It's about the number of lessons you've learned.
@sagetwitting @work Yes, of course. But the idea that people have an unlimited capacity to sell themselves to the highest bidder is a fallacy that health care admin has falls into. Many people in the business of healthcare don’t get why we do this job.
Nearly every hospital I’ve interacted with, from seattle to Albuquerque has a critical RN shortage. Years of making the job harder and less fulfilling and trying to just outpay the burnout is a failed strategy now in covid. People want respect, meaning, and kindness @work- not $
