Half of mine is compost basically because the guy I bought this yard from started that pile over 10 years ago. I’m hoping fertilizer doubles and I’ll be able to rent land

@koinzangreg @KornKattle @ToxicDebtInc So in mn where I first started by renting a feedyard we sold the manure for $7 a ton and farmers hauled it not us. We did load them. That was 15 years ago. Not sure if that’s an asset but it was income for sure. I’d imagine it hasn’t changed but maybe.

@koinzangreg @ToxicDebtInc Also you can depreciate high fertilizer values as retained prepay expenses on your taxes on manure spread fert values.

@TornadoNate The biggest opportunity in ag is now. It’s easier today than when I started but you gotta do the work. I never left the farm for over 4 years and fed everyday in that time. Before that I stayed out in a cow truck for 9 months. If you put in a 80 hours a week for 30 years u win

@TornadoNate Yeah well tell me where else in the world if you work 90 hours a week where it’s better than that. Most won’t do it but there’s first generation fat kids like me actually like what we do and most won’t.

@PlsntVlyFarmer Won’t matter to grain farmers because they’ll make more than raising crop. And I’m not sure that the few cattle guys that are left will even care since we live in poverty anyway.

@crosscounties @govkristinoem I thought they were some of the biggest landowners in the state. Far as I know we have the 2 biggest land chunks in the USA owned by the Indians. I guess the tax rolls aren’t right.

@kansasangus @SecVilsack Well I started with an fsa loan. I got kicked out because I had done so well. Without fsa I would have never been in ag. I wanna see the area where most of those loans are. I’d wager they are in east and they are startup gardening things.

@benz_miles When I started feeding ddg it was priced at 90 percent of corn value with 110 percent of value. Than they went to priced on protein equivalent. Now they price it on what locals will pay for it. A lot of times you can buy dry cheaper and add water back to it and it’s less than wet

They got all the answers on how to fix the packing plant industry but have never hung cattle and pedaled the meat. If small packing plants are the answer. How come I’m still not whole from eastern mt pack

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK That has nothing to do with it. Why don’t people raise cattle that the market wants and pays a premium for. The point of the dad thing is most people want to do what dad did and that’s not what the market wants. Jeeez. Walmart is going to need an insane amount of front end blacks

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK Walmart has consistently went after better and better beef. It use to be all Holstein from Tyson. They shut canned the Holstein market back then when they quit using it. Even there boughten beef from the big four is all colored cattle now.

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK I’d raise cattle for them but I got better deals than that with 2 other grocery store chains and you can’t haul their fat cattle over 150 miles supposedly. Mine go 1725 miles but 150 is too much for Walmart.

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK Walmart already has there born raised and harvested label. Creekstone will only kill enough to let them sell it in 3 states. They want to sell it nationwide. They pay a premium for cattle and some of the best trucking rates in the county. They have for the past 3 years.

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK I guess I have always tried to the raise the best. I’m not some guy doing it like dad did it. I just do things that pay. They pay for good cattle so I raise them. If you don’t want to make money and got a lot of equity you probably don’t need to make money.

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK Pretty weird how all the producers who raise the front end best cattle that grid on the planet are for added value and quality premiums for premium cattle.

@kansasangus @ConneXionLVSTK In 10 years supermarkets will harvest more cattle than the big 4. I tied my horse to to of them 2 years ago. Might not b right but raising average commodity cattle for the big 4 is guaranteed to make me go broke. Take the premiums.
