Sometimes you can say, "I understand that you're upset. I'm still not changing my mind." You don't have to be cold or defensive. You can love someone and tolerate their disappointment.

If you hurt your wife, own it. Apologize. Change the behavior. But her feelings afterward aren't automatically your responsibility. Taking responsibility for what you did isn't the same as managing her emotional experience.

Therapy isn't about justifying your problems.
It's to understand yourself well enough to do something different.
Sometimes that means changing a behavior, challenging a belief, or doing something uncomfortable that you've been avoiding.

Talking is part of therapy.
It isn't the point.
The point is to change something.
