You may not see the smoke — but your body can feel it. 🔥💨
Across our offices and hospitals, we’re seeing more patients with symptoms linked to smoke exposure. Sinus pressure, headaches, ear discomfort and breathing irritation are becoming more common as wildfire smoke moves into Jacksonville.
Here’s what’s happening:
Smoke carries tiny particles that can irritate your eyes, nose, throat and lungs, even from miles away. That irritation can lead to inflammation, which is why symptoms like congestion, pressure and coughing are so common right now. For most people, symptoms are mild and improve with time. But it’s important to know when to take it more seriously.
Manage at home if you have:
• Mild sinus pressure or congestion
• Scratchy throat or watery eyes
• Occasional cough
Call your primary care provider or visit your local Carespot if you have:
• Ongoing or worsening sinus pain
• Ear pain or pressure
• Symptoms lasting more than a few days
Seek emergency care if you experience:
• Trouble breathing
• Chest tightness
• Severe wheezing or asthma flare
To help reduce exposure: stay indoors when possible, keep windows closed and consider limiting outdoor activity while air quality is impacted.
We’ve also seen an uptick in sick visits across some of our offices. If you’re having trouble getting in to see your primary care provider, options like virtual care or CareSpot can help you get the support you need.
