Behind the famous Curetes Street, the Terrace Houses are a cluster of elite townhomes built into the slope of Bülbüldağı. Terrace House 2 forms a ca. 4,000 m² residential block—an insula—comprising seven dwellings arranged on three stepped terraces, their rooms looking inward to light‑filled courts.

Peristyle houses in Ephesus were designed so that rooms opened onto an open‑to‑the‑sky court for air and light—exactly the effect the reconstruction captures. The fresco programs and quality craftsmanship across Terrace House 2 are striking, and digital reconstructions by Ádám Németh help visualize that vivid interior world beyond the bare masonry visible today.

A series of powerful earthquakes in the late 3rd century AD ended this townhouse’s story; the complex fell out of high‑status use. Today a large protective building (completed in 2000) lets visitors view the mosaics and wall paintings in place.
