H.E. President @edmnangagwa hosted potential investors at a business dinner in New York on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The main objective was to connect Zimbabwe with global capital and create business networks. The Chairman of the Victoria Falls International Financial Centre, Mr Marc Holtzman, said Zimbabwe’s ongoing economic reforms are increasingly opening up new opportunities for global capital.

Speaking after a Business Dinner, Mr Holtzman said the engagement brought together 35 senior investors, with half attending to explore and assess Zimbabwe’s investment opportunities for the first time.

Mr Holtzman said President Mnangagwa’s presentation at the Business Forum on reforms underway in mining, services, banking and monetary policy generated strong interest among the investors.

Govt, UN Women intensify gender equality push

Women Affairs Minister Hon Monica Mutsvangwa met @unwomenzw Regional Director Anna Mutavati in Harare to strengthen collaboration on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The Chirundu Border Post’s upgrade has reached financial close. This means the financing arrangements are now in place, and work can start.

The contract was awarded to Chirundu Border Consortium, which will mobilise the capital, develop and operate the upgraded border post. SAFAGA International is the project sponsor, while Strategic Partners Group is an investment partner. Standard Bank SA is the lead debt arranger and senior lender.

Among the investors is Glynn Cohen, also an investor in Zimborders, the consortium that rebuilt the Beitbridge Border Post.

In 2024, Cabinet said the project was for US$66.8M, and that it would be implemented under a 20-year concession.

Chirundu, between Zim and Zambia, is a key route for regional trade. The upgrade is meant to replace old infrastructure and cut delays.

A 2025 Business Environment Monitoring Survey put the average time to cross Chirundu at about 15 hours, with customs clearance and vehicle queues accounting for more than 80% of crossing time.

GWANDA PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL OPENS ICU AND COMMISSIONS FOUR DIALYSIS MACHINES

GWANDA Provincial Hospital has officially opened its Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and commissioned four additional dialysis machines in a major development expected to strengthen access to specialised and life-saving healthcare services in Matabeleland South.

The facilities were officially opened and commissioned by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matabeleland South, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe, during a ceremony attended by senior provincial officials, health authorities, hospital management and healthcare workers.

Among those in attendance were the Deputy District Commissioner, members of the Joint Operations Command, the Provincial Medical Director for Matabeleland South, Dr A. F. Muza, the Medical Superintendent of Gwanda Provincial Hospital, Dr S. Gororo, members of the hospital executive and healthcare workers.

In his welcome remarks and project briefing, Dr Muza said provincial hospitals were expected to provide specialised healthcare services to communities within their respective provinces. He said Gwanda Provincial Hospital had been identified to provide four key specialised services, namely intensive care, dialysis, CT scans and echocardiography.

Following the opening of the ICU and commissioning of the additional dialysis machines, the hospital has now achieved approximately 50 per cent of the specialised services expected at the provincial institution.

Dr Muza explained that the ICU project was initiated by Government during the COVID-19 era, with locally generated revenue subsequently being utilised to complete the facility. The ICU is currently supported by one specialist nurse and nine general nurses.

The establishment of the ICU is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to manage critically ill patients within Matabeleland South, while also strengthening the province’s ability to provide specialised medical care closer to communities.

Dr Muza also highlighted the potential of the new facilities to attract specialist doctors to Matabeleland South, as improved infrastructure and specialised services create a stronger environment for the deployment and retention of specialist healthcare professionals.

The hospital’s dialysis services have also received a significant boost. Previously operating with only one dialysis machine, which could serve approximately 10 patients, the centre now has four additional machines secured through local partnerships and Government initiatives.

The additional machines are expected to increase the centre’s capacity to approximately 50 dialysis patients, substantially improving access to renal care for people in the province.

Officially opening the facilities, Minister Nguluvhe described the development as a major milestone for Matabeleland South, saying it would bring specialised and life-saving healthcare services closer to the people.

He said the ICU would strengthen emergency and critical care services at Gwanda Provincial Hospital, allowing critical cases to be managed locally and reducing the need for patients to be transferred to Bulawayo or Harare.

Zimbabwe Takes Digital Inclusion Agenda to the Global Stage at UNGA81.

Zimbabwe has taken its digital transformation agenda to the global stage, with Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services Hon. Tatenda Mavetera outlining the country’s efforts to ensure that technology becomes an instrument of inclusion, opportunity and shared prosperity.

Speaking at Digital UNGA on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, Minister Mavetera presented Zimbabwe’s digital inclusion architecture, anchored in NDS2 and Vision 2030, with emphasis on closing the rural-urban digital divide and ensuring that connectivity reaches previously underserved communities.

The country has connected more than 10,000 remote sites and expanded its national fibre backbone to over 17,000 kilometres, strengthening the infrastructure required for a digitally enabled economy. Satellite connectivity, including licensed providers such as Starlink, is also being leveraged to reach isolated schools, clinics and communities.

At community level, the Presidential Internet Scheme is providing free public Wi-Fi at rural business hubs, while traditional post offices are being transformed into modern Digital Centres, giving citizens access to equipment, internet services and public-sector platforms.

The human-capital dimension is equally central. Zimbabwe is targeting 1.5 million citizens for digital skills training through Digital Ambassadors and self-learning portals, with dedicated programmes for women, youth and persons with disabilities.

The country’s digital transformation is now moving into the next frontier — Artificial Intelligence. The National AI Strategy 2026–2030 seeks to deploy human-centred AI across areas such as precision agriculture, healthcare and digital governance, aligning technological advancement with citizen dignity and inclusive development.

Minister Mavetera also participated in the Nigeria Digital Economy session and shared Zimbabwe’s AI implementation roadmap, while joining the Digital UNGA Awards presentations recognising initiatives reaching underserved communities.

The message was unequivocal: digital inclusion is not charity; it is about rights, dignity and opportunity.

Zimbabwe’s emerging digital architecture is therefore being positioned not simply as an ICT programme, but as a development accelerator — connecting people to education, markets, public services, innovation and economic opportunity.
