πPride Facts: Marsha P. Johnson (dark topics)
Meet Marsha P. "Pay It No Mind" Johnson, a transgender woman activist who fought for gay rights and against the exclusion of transgender people and people of color from the LGBTQ+ community. Remember the Stonewall Uprising?
Initially, her death was ruled a suicide, but at the time, 1992 was the worst year for anti-LGBTQ violence in New York. Her friends and the LGBTQ+ community suspected she'd been murdered. Her case was reopened in 2012, but it remains unsolved. We hope one day, that changes.
Please plan accordingly as defaulting prior to the deadline, not the grace period, does not have consequences.
Also, our mini event, Ultra Rare PRIDE! π³οΈβπhas started! Take a look at the info on it, and tag us in your works!

Assignments are due TODAY at 11:59 PM EDT! Please default if you cannot make the deadline. As a reminder, there is a 24 hour grace period post assignment due date to turn in your assignment, meaning you technically have until 10 June by 1159 PM EDT.
Those who DO reach out within the 24 hour grace period letting us know they can't complete their assignment are allowed to stay for their first offense and can't participate in the next exchange.
While the Stonewall Uprising, also known as the Stonewall Riots, was not the first time the LGBTQ+ community fought back, it is considered a catalyst for the creation of many gay activist groups and the modern gay rights movement.

πPride Facts: The Stonewall Uprising of 1969
Imagine going to a gay bar today. You'll spend time with your friends, have a few drinks, and maybe see a drag show or two. In the 1960s in the U.S., homosexual acts were illegal.
Gay bars, such as the Stonewall Inn in New York City, were often targeted by police. On June 28, 1969, police ripped patrons out of the bar and were met with an angry crowd of citizens and locals, forcing the police to barricade themselves for six days.
