The degree to which D.C. and Maryland have triggered capital flight from their housing sectors through (different) bad policy choices is really something to behold.

In 2015, Mayor Bowser launched Vision Zero to eliminate traffic deaths in DC by 2024. Since then, traffic deaths have not declined at all and are up by >100% this year.

Worth remembering as the DC Council considers legalizing AVs that are about 90% safer than human drivers.

@SakiTay @AshleySchapitl Money for the stadium and arena are from the capital budget, which is different from the budget that funds human services and the housing production trust fund. The tax revenue from Nats Park + new housing around it is how we’ve been able to expand DC’s safety net.

D.C. is about to elect a mayor who only recently came around to the idea that increasing housing supply can lower prices, which is not something you should have to explain to anyone over the age of 13. The bar for leadership in progressive cities is just so low.

@dexterowilliams Hard to know without some initial returns that show Ward & precinct information. Polling suggests that undecided voters were more likely to be over the age of 50, so the election day electorate might skew a little older compared to early voting.

@GuillermoMena Correct! For context, these numbers are as of Sunday, both for this year and 2022, for an accurate apples-to-apples comparison. My 2026 numbers don't include yesterday or today for mail + drop box.
